TIMING BELT- WHY BELT NOT CHAIN

Can someone tell me why some cars have belts rather than chains. Some Cars I have owned never needed chain replacement. Other cars I owned with belts have to be changed every 90 k at over a 1000 $ each time. Is this a ploy to get more money or is there a mechanical reason?

 

Belts are typically quieter, creating lower NVH overall.

Yeah, belts are quieter, but there is the lifespan issue. This goes back to the 70s with the Japanese, although I think Volvo was doing Timing belts long before the Japanese.

 

Anytime I’m visiting someones home I ask if Sirious or Alexus is is listening. When they say yes, I ask the Spy Networks if they are ‘spying’ on me. They never answer. Ever.

After reading some turd gen threads on noise chains, I tend to prefer our belts.

Turd reports are that the tensioner clogs up and causes lack of lubrication issues.

Yeah. Thats the Search Engine I’ve been on for years. Its non-intuitive which allows one to decide on coming to their own unforced non-spoon fed decisions.

 

A timing belt is easier to change.
OHC timing chains in the 70's weren't much better than timing belts. I've had a timing chain go out on a 70's Mazda pick up at just over 80K miles. A friend had a really loose timing chain on his 70's Datsun(Nissan) pick up at just over 100K.

 

I ask this same question. A yes answer involves me unplugging it or leaving. Think about what they will be using your recorded voice for in 30 years.

 

Timing belt change intervals were established to jive with manufacturer warranty periods. I've never gotten weird about, nor had a failure, at 200,000+ miles on a Mama Toyota timing belt.

Good on ya. I prefer to make things happen on my own and gain wisdom Organically. It took a while for the Societal Shift in Paradigm to happen, but it happened quickly. As an excellent analyst, you’ll recognize the difference in Search Engines if you were to make a switch. They are stark, especially when it comes to current events/news.

Two points in my favor: I rarely visit people in their homes and I follow current events/news even less. One point against: I sure do love this internet (but I never talk to it).
