Exterior rear door handle non functioning

hi all,

is there a fix out there, my exterior handle (driver side) is not operating on my 2002 Tundra. Fortunately it is easy to operate from the interior handle but it is humbug none the less.

Perhaps there is a link to an easy fix

Good Luck with easy fix Joe. You more than likely need to at least take the inside door panel off and see if the door handle rod has issues. For outside handle there are 2 rods, one with yellow plastic holder and the key rod which is red.

Even Sue at 1A Auto can do it. While yours will be somewhat different, for the most part it should help !

Bubba hit the nail on the head. The good news is, since your interior handle is functional, the main mechanism is okay. You'll have to take off the door panel (pretty easy) and examine the mechanism. There will be two rods coming off it, one leads to the interior handle and the other leads to the exterior handle.

I suspect the rod to the exterior handle has disconnected from the handle itself or from the mechanism. Once you determine the case it should be pretty cheap and somewhat easy to repair. Most likely the clip broke at the handle.
