The wind speed was ridiculous. I would say 40-50mph gusts.

BORA and Spidertrax are the agreed-upon exceptions to the rule. And < 2”.

    That’s a beautiful rack!
I fell in love as soon as I read 14 gallons of hot shower! :broccoli:...

... but then I did the math and realized it’d be far more weight than Hulk can carry flying. Too much for any off-road driving maybe. But it’s a beautiful rack!

Wow, that's nuts!! I figured it would be like that up there! Hope you still had a fun trip, looks beautiful despite the wind and cold! We are planning a trip out that way in August through Coyote Flats, etc.

Do you know if your friend will build for double cabs, or only for CrewMax? It is beautiful, looks well-thought-out, and I’m looking forward to seeing it on your truck.

Both as long as he had the measurements. The rack itself is lighter than competition and you don't have to fill it up with all 14 gallons. One of the options is water filtration built in so when you get to your camping location, you can fill it up at the spot. I'm a newbie and can't talk about it the way he can so I will ask him to maybe do a write up and I will post it here. He pretty much studied 30 different racks and combined some features together and added stuff he thought it would be useful. He lives on the next block from me and I saw his silverado transform from stock boring looking truck to this and I walked over there and started talking to him one day. I am glad I did.

They are pretty bulletproof as long as you eliminate the balance shaft. I’d love to buy and build a 1st gen GSX or Talon TSI. It would be a fun sleeper commuter car.

Cool to see so many prior DSM guys in here. Thats rad! And even by todays standards a solid mod list! Used to have a built 91 prior to this one, Made 325+ at 20psi without a real tune and would destroy my buddys '67 mustang with built 347 stroker everytime

Current one has 950cc injectors, speed density, FMIC, 272's, 3" turbo back, AFPR. Slowly coming together, but trying to keep the "stock" motor appearance other than the FMIC and piping.

I also just saved this thing from going to the crusher, 89 Mirage, has the 4G61 (1.6 turbo) that is the smaller bore/shorter deck version of the 4G63, same head and all. 4G63 bolts right in along with the 2.0L ecu.

@Sunnier drove down the 86 north coming from the 8 and it was 90 degrees at 9pm by the salton sea. Hopefully the weather isn’t that hot for Anza.

Yeah, yesterday was really hot, but weather is so crazy now, can’t predict. Here it was in the 90’s Thursday and Friday, mid 70’s yesterday, and cool and raining today. Same over at the Grand Canyon: snowed Tuesday and Wednesday, then high 90’s Thursday on....

We’ve got a big group though, so Anza’s the only place with space enough and camping. Gotta hope the crazy weather works in our favour.

Isn't that the same as a Colt? I always wanted a Galant Vr-4, but the Eclipse took all my money and when I got out of the DSM game I never went back. Found other money pit opportunities.

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyways. For those running 17-in wheels where do you mount balance weights on the wheel? It seems like there's not enough space to mount them in the standard locations due to the caliper being so close to the wheel.

That can be a problem. You do have to mount weights to clear the caliper. Some wheels work better than others. Our NorCal Bastrd buddies are pretty knowledgeable... i.e. have purchased enough to know. :spending:
@831Tun will you please share your knowledge here?

Avoid the middle, keep the weights on the inner or outer most part of the wheel

I think it varies from wheel to wheel depending on the shape of the barrel. On my wheels the weights go tight to the inside of the spokes.

Same. Wheel weights are tight up behind the spokes on my wheels to clear the calipers.

    Edit:
    Tip I got from @tundra_20
Make sure they mount the weights the same for the rear wheels so you can rotate.
