So my 2000 tundra limited 4x4 feels like it’s lagging.. At 60 mph it’s a very high rev and doesn’t feel right.. Is this because it’s a 4x4 or is this not normal? It actually feels like the hand brake is stuck or something like that. I do think the injectors need to be replaced.

My mechanic has a 2WD and his truck accelerates a lot quicker and better then my truck... Please lmk what you think?

Are you rolling on oversized heavy tires? Are you carrying a lot of weight?
How many miles are on your truck / engine?

Clean the MAF and throttle body, and make sure your air filter is clean.
Maybe try some BG 44K Fuel System Cleaner.

My 2002 4WD V8 is very quick off the line, as well as right up to the speed limiter.

Thank you, there is 265/70R17’s on the truck, a little bigger then stock but not that much of a difference.. I put a new throttle body so it can’t be that... Engine has 200k miles, I do wanna rebuild it soon... I’ll try the BG cleaner thanks...

Unless something went very wrong or something a little wrong has been going on for a very long time, this is a waste of time and money. If you want to do it as a hobby project, that's an entirely different story. At 200k miles, these engines are only lightly worn in.

I would say this or the cat converter being plugged, esp. at 200K.

    Function before sparkle.
    Try this and report back:

    1. Put the truck in 2WD.
    2. Go to a safe place and hit 60 MPH on level ground. What is the engine RPM a this speed?
    3. Slow down to 40 MPH and drop the transmission to neutral and coast to a stop. Using "seat of the pants feel", does it feel like the truck is braking itself?
    4. Repeat in 4WD.
If you feel #3, safely lift the truck and check for resistance when spinning the wheels. What the calipers though. If they are sticking or siezed they could be VERY hot.

The brake wizards have/will offer comments about brakes. What I can add is in mine cruising 70 my rpm’s are 2200, 60 would be about 2k. Define “very high rev” in RPM’s.

Way out in left field....is your O/D light out and you are running around with O/D off ?

If I put O/D off going 70, my rpm’s go to 3k.....I hardly ever turn O/D off but tried it the other day since it was being discussed here.

I’d say plugged cats. Even though I’m at 270k but I know my cats are going. Check for loose spark plugs also. Mine lagged under load or on hills, and I found 6 finger tight spark plugs thanks to the previous owner.

The engine should never need a rebuild.

@nabores thank you, we did feel like there’s some vibration in the passenger side cat and it feels like there’s pieces lose inside of the cat while idling.. We’ll check that, thanks again..

@Baller after I paint the whole truck and finish the lift I am doing a twin turbo system, that’s why we are rebuilding the engine... So this 2UZ can handle the boost..

@8MINT8 I think you are correct, the driver side was replaced but the passenger side wasn’t and I do hear a very slight grinding noise coming from that area while driving... Thank you.. Damn it might be the cat, injectors and the caliper...

@Diablo169 We are only rebuilding this 200k 2UZ because I’m adding twin turbo’s to my BEAST.... As reliably as possible....Thank you for your 411...

If you're going to rebuild for forced induction, are you going to put forged connecting rods in? Also, how do you plan on tuning it?

So you come here asking a basic question just to drop you are adding twin turbos hopefully you’ll have a build thread. From my readings the 2UZ is a reliable platform, but needs some bottom end improvements for running boosts. Subscribed.

I didn’t realize you were turning such high rpm’s. Must be somewhere in the trans then.

@Diablo169 sorry if me adding a twin turbo after asking why my trucks lagging bothers you, but anyways thanks for your KULIANA! That’s 411 in Hawaiian.... Aloha and God bless....

@BubbaW You was 100% on the money... The over drive wasn’t engaging, we figured out why and now it’s like the 2WD the shop has.... Cruises at 70 mph at about 2200 RPM like it suppose to, I can’t believe it was something so simple as that and I just couldn’t figure it out.. Thank you again.... I’m sure I have to change my cats as well...
