Carrier Bearing Drop at 1.5” lift

    Just put a 1.5” block on the rear of my 2020 Crewmax and think I get an occasional shudder. Have you guys done or recommend the bearing drop at that small of a lift? I had 3” on my 2014 and never shuddered.

    You should definitely play around with some spacers if you’re getting the shudder. Maybe try half inch to three-quarter inch spacers.
    My coach builder +2s (about a1”lift) came with carrier bearing spacers. I think they were about 5/8”. I’ve ran them for a few years.

    I used to get a slight shudder with an empty bed upon hard acceleration from a stop. Then I recently hauled a bed full of stuff along with a car on a trailer. The shudder became amplified with the squat from all the weight. Decided to take my spacers out, now my shudder is gone.

    Point being, every truck is a little different. Some will require spacers and son will be perfectly fine. All about that drive shaft and pinion angle. I think I was getting it when my axle would wrap a little bit under heavy load.

    squat wasn’t too bad. But I think it’s about finding that sweet spot with the bearing drops. I was borderline, add spacers and it gave it shudder. You’re at the other end.

    Thanks for the comprehensive response. I was thinking of starting around 3/8 on the spacer and messing around from there. Certainly easy and cheap enough to experiment.

    Not enough....
    I put some spacers on with my recent lift; new Dobinson's leaf spring pack (~2.5" of lift) and a 1" lift shackle. So far I'm getting no vibrations at the current ride height, but we'll see once I load the bed up or start towing.

    With my first gen Tundra I just stacked tons of washers until I reached a point where the vibration went away, or at least was very minor. The right way to do it is to actually measure the true driveline angle, but most DIY guys like myself don't have tools for that. So it's all kind of a guessing game.
