Had someone reseal my driveshaft and gasket seals, as well as do timing belt. I could tell start up was a little off, after a month or so this happens. Listen below, tell me what you think. And do you bring it back and have him correct it or go elsewhere?

    Electrical on only:

If there is a warranty that came with the work, I'd take it back to them and have them correct it... If they wont, you may want to search legal avenues or have them pay for a separate repair shop to correct the work. Timing belt may have jumped a tooth or two causing a no start issue
The buzz sound is maybe the starter, Since you got closer to the manifold it sounded louder, only electrical thing in there is the starter...

When you say "had someone", does this mean it wasn't done at a shop?

Buzzing sounds like a bad electronic throttle body. As for the starter, Is the battery fully charged?

I'm hope it didn't lose timing. Maybe hold off on trying to start it any more. Did you have him use OEM parts on the timing belt job? That wouldn't necessarily explain the noise though.

It sounds like the valves are not opening on the appropriate timing and giving that weird compression sound like an old Model T. I wouldn't try to start it. I'm actually concerned it may have already caused damage. I would start over with this and tear it back down. Who did the work?

He said he’d take it in this afternoon but confidence is rather low. See what he says and if I’m skeptical I’ll be taking to a good friend who was originally unavailable, getting the diagnosis and sticking buddy with the bill.

Battery is brand new, but I think you might be onto something with the starter.

Start was weak or missing after a week or so and didn’t get better. A local mechanic, first time thing. He’s been around for a while but this’ll probably be the last.

For a couple days, then occasionally wouldn’t crank after 1 or 2 tries, eventually cranking.

If you need a new starter do the 2.0kW Heavy Duty Denso. It cost less than the lighter duty 1.4kW and is plug and play if yours originally has the 1.4kW.

Truck will crank right up viciously.

That honestly sounds like the stater gear contact with the flywheel ring gear is gone. Meaning teeth on the starter are wore out or broken off. Could be truly be a coincidence that you recently had work done about a month ago. Or the gear isn’t fully engaging properly making that noise occur.

From my experience that does not seem like a weak battery to me. Not totally sure what the humming noise is. But the closer you got to the starter area, the noise appeared louder.

Use a mechanics stethoscope to localize the buzzing.

If the buzzing is coming from the starter, it's the solenoid buzzing (electric On only), but the starter will need replacement. The solenoid closes starter primary contacts when the switch is turned to START, but the buzzing is happening before the turn to START. Slow crank is likely further evidence starter is done.

This issue is probably unrelated to earlier work. My experience with timing belt jumping time (22RE) is that the engine will be difficult to start, then impossible to start, but will still crank fine. I suppose that if it is an interference engine, eventually pistons colliding with valves will slow down the cranking, but it will take a huge timing jump to cause that.

The starter it is! Never in my life have I heard a starter make that noise.. but brought over and he wacked it a couple times, thing ran. I’ll post a video once done so we can all breathe easy. Least we got some future reference if anyone else has this issue.
