Can anyone tell me the best spots on a 2008 Tundra to place my floor jack and my jack stands when doing a front brake job
    - rotating tires
    - rear brakes
Are there easily identifiable spots where they should be placed or is it more by trial and error.
thanks I am new to this stuff. Gary

Jack Under the LCA or crossmember and put stands on the frame where it comes out to the side (right before the front door begins)

As for the back, jack up using the frame where the rear door is and prop stands near it.

    That's what I do.

In the rear I usually put the floor jack at the pumpkin and lift the entire rear at the same time. Jack stands go at the frame right in front of the wheel or at the springs shackles depending on if I want the suspension to droop or not.
For the front I usually lift one side at a time by the lower arm. Placement of the jack stands depends on if you're wanting droop or not

Law's locations work, but the rear can be done by jacking under the diff and putting stands under the axle. You only have to jack it up maybe an inch to get the rear tires off. Under the frame you have to go up high enough to allow for suspension droop before the tire comes off the ground.

Jack stand should NEVER be under any type of moving suspension or pivot points. Always under the frame to carry the load correctly and SAFELY.

Try not to use the cross member if possible. I know there are times you have to man, when the jack is under the cross member, be very aware of the jack at all times and ready to instantly move if something goes wrong. Also the cross member might have oil on it too making it slick for the jack.

    I agree.
But there is no risk until you get under the vehicle. You can jack at any location that does not damage the vehicle, then you place the jack stands where they make it safe for the work. After I have jack stands placed, I vigorously shake the rig to confirm stability. Then, get to work.

Not true risk to the car/truck.. ever seen a jack stand go thru the floor board? I have. I have seen a jack stand go thru oil pan before.

Just a thought, when jacking from the rear diff. Don't forget to chock the front wheels. Most driveways have a slope. It'll roll.
I know, common sense, but some people learn the hard way.

I applaud your effort to encourage safety. I stand by what i said which i suppose you did not read, ",...then you place the jack stands where they make it safe for the work."
After 40+ years of conducting and supervising skilled and unskilled tradesmen I have seen plenty of bad scenarios. You can't cure stupid.

I read it.. not just safety to people but safety to property that's my point. One accident it comes out of my bottom line and profit for the year. When your a owner of a company you look at that.

I wonder if we should start a thread about the most stupid stuff we've seen:
I'm thinking of the loose ring rattling around the backing plate 'cause the rivets in the brake shoes had cut clear through the drum. She wondered why the brakes stopped working.
Or the guy who had never changed his oil. We kept some of that stuff in a jar and when you turned it upside down it would take about 5 hours to flow to the bottom.
Like I said, you can't cure stupid!

I think the worst one was this.. diesel and gasoline don't play nicely in a petro engine. Guy came in the a start rough idle and shut down. Make a long story ECM had 20 codes stored we are like what the hell. After about 20 mins we started I ran to the back for exhaust and yep white smoke.. took a sample of fuel and it was diesel and gasoline mix. ( He was drunk the night before and was low on fuel he told us) after all said and done it was a $2800 mistake on his drunk ass.

You are correct you can't fix stupid.

So I'm working in bay 2 on a tune and watching the pumps over my shoulder and at the self service island I see this young girl close the back of her VW bug and put the pump nozzle up.
Takes me about 15 seconds to sink in and I haul ashes out there yelling.
She's just filled the crankcase with gasoline through the oil fill pipe. Those VDubs had the gas filling tube under the hood up front. I believe that could have grenaded, glad I didn't find out.

    That's bad... Good catch man...

Worst one was a Toyota Highlander. She had it just serviced at Toyota oil change mind you what could go wrong.. Um they put 3 quarts in and didn't torque the oil bolt. Unfortunately the engine grenades as all oil is lost at 74 mph and also takes the top gear in transmission out..

Thanks for all of the great comments and Tips I really appreciate all of your input.
I forgot to mention that I have a set of Firestone Ride-Rite air bags on the rear of my truck
Can I jack up the rear and let the axel hang down or will that screw-up the air bags?

I use the LCA or cross member, and i had to manufacture a block reinforced with screws etc to get enough lift (i have a big full size floor jack) to get the front tires off the ground.

I bought one of these from Tractor Supply. $40.00. Works great under my 7" lift.

That could definitely work well. I always feel iffy being under my truck on just a normal floor jack. Though I have a large full size jack and use stands still..

Ive got a tote under my tonneau and keep it on board in that along with some recovery gear, jumper cables, 4 way, and a few other things. Its just barley SHORT ENOUGH to fit under the rear axel and front end. No blocks under it required for additional height or stability.

I may be getting my wheels powdercoated so my rig will be on jack stands for a few days. I haven't had to jack this truck up at all yet. I have a big floor jack and two 5 ton capacity jack stands, going to buy two more jack stands today.

    This came in handy, thanks.
