Nitto Ridge Grapplers in the snow. Really that bad?

Northeast/Midwest Ridge Grappler owners please chime in. How do Ridge Grapplers preform in the snow in general? Not just a snowfall here or there but for a constant 4-5 months of winter weather like we see in the Northeast/Midwest. Mainly looking for on-road winter performance. I love the look of a 285/70r18 with a level on these trucks, but this is one of the only non MT tire available in that size (not a fan of Exo Grapplers). But there seems to be a debate on whether or not these tires are decent year round tires. Thanks!

 

They are great in deep snow.. Icy snow packed roads they are acceptable in my opinion. Far better than any M/T I’ve had on icy roads. Definitely not as good as 3 peak snow rated tires...

Very quiet on the pavement, also great in mud, sand, and off-road. If you travel gravel roads much you’ll appreciate these tires vs most A/T tires because they don’t throw many rocks. The mud here is sticky...clean out isn’t the best but a little more wheel spin cleans em out.

I’m in Montana so road conditions change rapidly and often and am pleased with these tires year around performance and would by them again.

 

5 months of winter weather I would get some 3 peaks like AT3, KO2 or falken at3/w

 

Trust me I wish I could. Sucks they don't come in 285/70r18's.

 

RG is the only viable tire option in that size unless you want MT. Going to 275/70 or 285/75 opens up a ton of great AT tire options. 275/70 fit stock trucks, 285/75 need a little lift and little else, remove front spats, if you keep stock rims. Rims with more offset require some trimming/molding of plastics or BMC if offset is aggressive.

If there were some good AT tires in 285/70 I would run them too....but, I installed 275/70s and got the tires I wanted, happy with the performance and cost was less than 285/70s too.

If snow is a concern, the Exo grappler is more suited for that sort of weather.


I did run RGs for 3 winters and never had any serious issues. They slipped a bit more than the OE tires on my Tacoma, but they have less siping. Never felt like I was pushing my luck though.
