well todays the day i can go back to the TW. yay

 

I had the guy that does upholstery stuff at work stash me a couple of their pressurized spray glue containers. They are still pressurized a bit and I'm wondering what they'll do. I'm thinking a well placed 6.5g should be interesting from about 300 yards. It might do exact nothing. That's why I have two. If need be, I'll throw a schrader valve on the 2nd one and add some more pressure and maybe some sodee pop for foamy fun.

I'm not shooting again till ammo comes back. It's too damn expensive too replenish my stock.

At this point, and seeing what's on the menu in certain places, you could be right. This may be the new norm, but I'm holding onto a sliver of hope. Remington just opened back up, so I'm hoping others follow.

of course a C900 hood is a bit shorter than a Tundra hood, but you could make it work.

 

This ammo situation is caused by us. I saw this play out after Sandy Hook. Everyone panicked and bought all the .22lr for some reason. As soon as people stop buying every box of ammo they can find, supply will catch up with demand. I met a guy recently who was bragging about finding 1000 rounds of 9mm for $700.

 

Human's will stockpile ANYTHING they highly value and they are lead to believe will be imminently made scarce. The question is what is the catalyst for this normal human behavior.

When a Hurricane is headed for the coast people stockpile water...and they will stockpile more than they likely need.

What is causing the run on Ammo is not an "act of god" and that's all I'll say about that before it turns into the thing we must not speak here...

Yup. That's the way it goes. Ammo production is usually 6-12 months behind normal demand. When there are events that cause mass buys and shortages the supply will always catch back up, but the prices never go back down to the pre-shortage levels. It's happened every time this type of situation arises.

You know what both analogies have in common? In both situations, people failed to prepare ahead of time. Folks should have stacked ammo a few years ago when it was cheap and plentiful. I haven't had to buy ammo in years.

I'm very aware of pending legislation and I joined 3 gun lobbying groups recently but I stand by my statement. We can't blame the ammo situation on politicians when you have people that continue to buy ammo at extremely inflated prices just because they can. Hell, if anything should be out of stock, it should be guns. Yet when I walk into my local gun store there are plenty of AR's on the shelf. If everyone would chill out, we would see ammo again.

 

I suspect you are right this time about prices not returning to their previous levels. That said, we eventually did see prices go even lower than they were prior to sandy hook. From 2016 to around 2018 prices on ammo were the lowest they had been in a long, long time. But from what I'm reading about the demand for ammo components, we may never see prices that low again.

 

Didn't Remington go bankrupt and divest / dissolve significantly? If they're back, it isn't the same Remington we're use to.

 

I agree with most of this. The one thing that's really outside the norm for this particular rush on ammo is the MILLIONS of new gun owners caused by the "protests" over the last year. That brought a new level of demand that would have impacted the supply even without the fear based buying of people who already owned firearms. Place the blame for all those events wherever you'd like, but they most certainly have had an impact.

 

I completely agree. That has been a huge part of it. We should probably prepare for this ammo cycle to happen every 4 years as we potentially elect different people. When ammo is plentiful again, stack it deep. I wish I had bought more than I did. You also have older guys who sit at Academy Sports every morning and buy any ammo that comes in and then they sell it in the parking lot for more. That seems like a really boring retirement to me.

 

Yup. Not a fan of price gougers. I refused to pay the gouged prices for a plinker. The whole point of a 22 is to shoot for cheap. I got rid of my 22 when the prices were just at double the norm... and because I hadn't shot it for a year before that.

 

You are arguing against biology and human nature. The only people that did this are people of a particular mindset (I may or may not know someone like this), but that is not a typical mindset. It is unrealistic to expect humans as a group to act atypically...hence the word typical.

It's OK, doctors misdiagnose sickness all the time and stand by their diagnoses... One is a cause of the sickeness, the other is the symptom of the sickness. They way to cure the sickness is to deal with the cause.

There are already 500 million guns in the country. Guns are useless without ammunition. People who believe guns are a necessity already have guns...maybe more than they can use in an emergency situation, so there is not much need to buy another gun. Once you have a gun, there is little to no chance of running out of that gun.

When a Hurricane is coming, people don't buy toilets, but they buy alot of toilet paper.

Having said all that, gun sales went through the roof the past year....for obvious reasons.

Great point.
Every new firearm I have bought in recent years, has not been a new caliber to my collection. With the exception of my wife's deer rifle, 7mm-08.

Some guys I know keep buying up guns in different calibers and can't keep up the ammo stock.

 

I have actually considered dropping 380 and switching to a single stack 9mm. In the end I always keep both. It is a pain.

Yeah, for pistols I've had .22, 9mm and .40 for ever.
As much as I want a 10mm, not going to happen anytime soon.

New 5.56 pistol kit is in the mail as we speak though, before that gets the ban hammer.

 

It's been a chain of events that led up to this, all of them have happened before, but not at the same time. Seeing how none of the events have gone away, I don't see it ending anytime soon. I've got my 1000 rounds of each caliber I own, but don't wanna drop any to go shoot.

 

This is the reason I swayed away from up-and-coming rounds like 6.5 PRC & Grendel. Can't find any ammo for them unless you're willing to pay well over $5/rnd. Also - the last few firearms I've bought were used (and still in new condition, mind you). Even more ammo for the argument, in that newly manufactured arms are just further flooding the market.

 

I think this is a situation where you have to ask what's a rational fear vs irrational fear. Stocking up on .22LR after Sandy Hook was an irrational fear. That was the one caliper LEAST likely to be impacted by some sort of ban. It made zero sense. Paying completely ridiculous prices for ammunition seems irrational to me. They are not going to ban ammunition. If they tried, SCOTUS would stop them. It would make a lot more sense to stock up on 30 round magazines and semi-auto long guns which seem more likely to be outlawed in the future.

You make good points though. I do realize people need ammo. I'm simply saying that as soon as people stop, supply will catch up. Sometimes as a community we make the situation worse than it needs to be. Geezers gouging people at Academy can f*ck off.
