They are alloy. The only options I found were black and chrome.

    Congratulations!

Do whatever you can to clean rust off the underside, and treat it with something to halt the spread.

You may find some information posted in my 2002 thread helpful.

Welcome to forum -- Gungoboom! I had a very similar Tundra and got 18 years out of it.
    • Whoever ordered mine tried to save thousands over the way yours was equipped. Steel wheels, fog light delete, 5-speed manual, cassette player/no CD, no TRD, and 3.4 L V-6. They would have gotten it at least $4,000 cheaper than yours was new. I paid 24K for it in 2002.
    • I was shopping for a Tacoma crewcab or 4Runner after 18 years with the 2002 SR5...but was overawed by the first 1794 Edition I ever saw and bought it 30 min. after the test drive.
    • We got $5,500 trade-in on the "aught-two". 140,000 miles, mostly highway miles between Salmon, ID and Williston, ND...and road trips to MO, KS, CA for assorted weddings, funerals, reunions, and antique car purchases.
    • Those quarter window latches are SO fragile...broke one myself.

I have been looking at different options. There is some on there. It seems to be just surface rust but I don't want it to progress. If anyone has any suggestions on what treatments work and what doesn't please let me know.

Finally worked my way through the layers of armor all and got my steelie ball to stick to the dash. Now I can finally mount my mic or phone.

Sorry but you gotta reinstall those running boards. They're not gaudy like the big chrome tubular ones are, they're actually perfect. They hide the stuff sticking out of the underside of the truck so nicely and give it such a clean look. Even if you did clean up that corrosion underneath it still won't look as clean as it would with the running boards on.

My light bar showed up today. It's a 30" single row from superbrightleds.com. It isn't installed yet but this is the planned location. This weekend I am going to tackle stopping the frame rust and cleaning up what is already there. The rear of the frame, around the bump stops, is looking pretty gnarly but it all seems to be surface rust from what I can see.

Nice! I have a 06 DC and put my bar in the same spot but I have a honey comb like plastic mesh, did you have one as well or did you just cut it out? Also whats the light disbursement look like? Kinda curious because I didnt notice much of a difference with the bumper on/off.

The camera on my phone doesn't really show exactly how it looks to the eye but I'm pretty happy with initial results. I'll be interested to see how it holds up. The good news is that it came with a lifetime warranty.

Took the truck in to get a dent repaired. Unfortunately, when they pulled off the fender flares they found this little gem.
    IMG_20210330_121333.jpg
They also found some previous repair work on the rear of the bed that was not completed properly and was beginning to crack. So that has been added to the list. This is getting expensive

Not bad for 20 years. Good thing is its under the Flare and can be done with the other work which hopefully saves a little. Whats the rear crack thing going on?

It appears the truck was rear ended at some point on the driver's side. The lower portion of the bedside, behind the bumper, was repaired with filler. That filler and paint are starting to crack. Thankfully, that is the side that is being repaired currently so I am only out the cost for them to clean out the old filler and redo the repair and not a full repair and repaint.

I also had the repair shop check my frame for rust damage while they were working on it. I was relieved to get a text that everything looked good.

Woolwax or fluid film are most recommended rust treatments. Welcome to the Tundra forum! Also, I will have questions for you in near future regarding comms...

It looks like you're making good progress on a number of fronts. More than me, I still have two small dents on my driver's door.

Where did you get the oval switch for your light bar? Sorry if I missed it?

I have a gallon of fluid film in my garage now. I also have a metric crap ton of rust-oleum that I wasted my money on. Maybe I'll throw some on the rear drums. They look pretty rough.

So far fine but I only have maybe 1,000 miles on them. I did give them a workout on some trails this weekend and didn't have any issues. The truck did great on some easy to moderate trails so maybe down the road I'll push it a little harder.

Nice work so far. I like the light bar installation. I mounted mine on the top of the bumper cover since I've got a forward facing camera in that opening. I also have to have a plate on the front here in Wisconsin, which covers up part of that gap as well.

Replaced my fuel filter and PCV valve this afternoon. I was going to replace injectors but I was working in my driveway and starting to look like rain.

The PCV valve looked fine but the fuel filter looked awful. I may run a tank or two through before I change anything else to see if there is any noticeable change in gas mileage.

Dirty Deeds 12 hole injectors are waiting on my workbench. I just need the motivation to get them installed.

I had planned for a spray in bed liner but had to put that purchase on pause for a few weeks.

BTW, I really like those center caps. To me they have the old school look of when 4WD trucks had locking hubs.
