This morning I started my tundra using the lock 3 Times procedure, and when I pressed unlock it stayed running, when I opened the door to get it, it stayed running, so I pushed the start button and it shut off.
Then it would only cycle through the accessory screens like it does when you don’t have the brake pedal depressed.
Kids needed to get to school/daycare, wife needed to get to work. So I unhooked the battery then re hooked it and still nothing. The fob would lock/unlock the doors as normal (kinda ruled out dead fob battery) anyways loaded everyone into my 16 year old, 300k Tacoma, which started right up as usual, then went back to the tundra and it started right up.
One thing I noticed in the tundra is in the screen between the tach/speedo it was saying key fob detected in vehicle at one point, then it told me to depress the brake like always but nothing.

just seeing if anyone else has experienced anything like this before with their push to start tundra?

    In progress…
I’ve had it happen to me when I pushed the button too quickly, but as soon as I slowed down and made sure I push the brake first it worked fine.

    At least I’m not alone!

I have this happen from time to time and I know what you mean. But today was definitely different. I must have tried to start the truck 50 times.

If this happens again try placing the key fob right next to the start button and see if it starts, don't leave it in your pocket.

I read this after, this is if the battery goes dead in the fob correct? I am buying replacement batteries for both fobs today, although I doubt both died at the same time.

I hope it doesn’t happen again, kinda annoying when everyone is on a timeline to get places. At least my domestic truck friends weren’t around.

It's not the battery in the fob he's referring to. Every key has a chip that is detected and allows the truck to start.

It happened to me too on my 2021, i had to disconnect the battery for a minute or 2. I had used the remote to start the truck to warm up. when i opened the drivers door, it did not shut itself off like normal. I shut the truck off with the push button and it would not restart. Battery disconnect was the only way.

I was under the impression you only used this method in the case where your fob battery died and you needed to start your truck/car. I’ll try it either way if it ever happens again

it’s weird because disconnecting the battery didn’t work for me, but after 5 minutes or so it started. Maybe a coincidence for you? Either way I hope it doesn't happen again.

Push button and key both use a chip. If the battery in the fob is dead on a push button move the fob up to the push button to start the truck. This brings the chip in close so it can be read. If you have a key start, the key is in proximity when it's in the ignition switch and will start.

This has happened to me once and I can't replicate it. I remote started the truck, opened door and it kept running. I turned it off at that point and the dash was telling me it didn't recognize the key. I walked away from the truck (out of range), walked back to it a minute or two later, remote started it, opened the door, and like it is supposed to do, it turned off as I opened the door. Restarted it (this time it recognized the key fob) and I was on my way.
