Am I too late to order/find a 2021 TRD Pro Tundra Lunar Rock?

    Hello Tundra enthusiasts!
I stopped at my local Toyota dealership today.
I told the guy that I wanted to order a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro Lunar Rock. (...I now know that there is no ordering apparently.)
The guy told me that I could put down my deposit - and once one is allocated to them, then it's mine! But no guarantee on the color! I would have to take whatever color - or surrender the deposit.
I replied it must be Lunar Rock!
He then said that he can watch the list - and once one hits the "allocated" list, he can let me know to come in and put down deposit at that time.
Curious if anyone on this site "knows the game" - and can give me any pointers on getting a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro Lunar Rock.

TY friend! That's in CA - and I'm in IA. LOL!
I wonder if I mention to my local dealership - if they can work with that dealership and have that truck shipped it to Bellevue, NE.

If you want it bad, buy a one way plane ticket and drive it back... nice little road trip.

The websites are often misleading. As I mentioned in another thread, my local dealership has been advertising a Lunar Rock Pro for the past month. I knew something wasn't right about this as it was never on the lot when I went by. Finally, got one of the sales guys to admit that the truck is an alloted item that they are expecting to receive, but already presold to another customer. Call it what you will, but I think that is just false advertising to lure people into their dealership.

With that said, I would call the dealership that have one advertised and see if it is physically there, in transit or what. There are indeed very few left.

Be prepared to pay a pretty penny. Don't wait for something in your area to pop up. If you find something the way you want it in another part of your state or even another state, do the one way plane ticket trip. It'll be worth it. Don't pay a mark up just because the dealer wants to charge one. Whatever price you end up agreeing with the dealer on, make sure to get that in writing. Far too often I've heard of dealers agreeing on a price only to inform the soon-to-be buyer they "Have" to mark the truck up and if they still want it, it's theirs. Take your time in doing a wide scope search. Remember, advertised online prices aren't always the actual selling price so if you find something you like, call the dealer to verify prices. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Search within the distance you are willing to drive. Call every single dealer multiple times. Don’t pay over MSRP. Be flexible on options/accessories. It took us two weeks of searching and calling but we just picked ours up.

We drove 4.5 hrs to pick ours up. Someone ordered it and never showed up to pick it up. Got it the day they listed it online.

What's odd is that my dealership hasn't gotten one yet. So, I would REALLY expect them to be on the list for the Tundra TRD Pro in Lunar Rock.
I have seen the Lunar Rock TRD Pro Taco there. ...But not the Tundra yet.
I just didn't really like what the guy said about putting down a deposit - and taking whatever color becomes "allocated".

Naw, don't fall for the "These are desperate times" bit. Dealers are MILKING the whole part shortage and pandemic combo to its last drop but not every dealer is the same. It took me 2 months and a 4 hour drive to get what I wanted. But I'm happy.

Seems like there's some in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio too. Unless, they're posting random vehicles to get you in.

To add to this, my understanding is the trucks are auto-uploaded to some degree. I ran across this exact scenario many times when I was searching. It's actually what led me to the dealership I ended up ordering through. They had one listed, I contacted to send a deposit. Salesman went to process then found out it was pre-sold. I think there's just poor communication internally as well.

I ended up ordering through the same dealer and now my LR Pro is currently listed on my dealer's website as a "recent arrival" and it's still about 3 weeks out from the dealer - beyond being pre-sold to me. Dealer Daily has both Internal and External notes showing "100% sold." Someone else out there is about to think they're going to score a LR Pro only to find out she's been sold since the order went in back in November.

I read this somewhere, so not sure if it's accurate, but if you search the Toyota.com inventory, that supposedly shows the available and to-be-built vehicles that have not yet been allocated. From my end, it shows 30 LR Pros floating around.

I would start mass emailing dealerships and see if any can get something done for you. They are out there, but just not easy to find and you have to pounce the minute you find an available one. Good luck!

I'd get a different color. At one point I was all about the "cement" trend but then I realized I'd probably get bored of it after a year or two and then be stuck with a vehicle that's the color of my driveway. (And I'm colorblind, love all shades of black/white - ended up with MGM myself)

    The MGM is NOT awful.
But I really do like the LR.
And part of the reason I'm thinking Tundra instead of Tacoma is because of the murmurings that the V8 was going away after this year.
So, when it comes time to sell, it might fetch a pretty good price. ...And I think the LR might help in that regard as well.

I went in to my local dealer and said I want a trd pro in lunar rock and the sales guy basically laughed at me. They said there are none and no way to get one, can’t order. That’s it, just a non-starter.

I settled for a limited double cab. Turns out there are none of those either. No dealers in the state had any, none coming in, and nobody offered to order one, just “sorry don’t have any, good luck.”

I asked one dealer to look for one for me and after a week they called and said can’t get one.

So I settled again... found a green sr5 dc in stock, one of only a small handful tundras available within 50 miles, and paid full msrp to take it home. Very happy with it but not what I had in mind when I set out.

When I was searching, I called every dealer within ~50 miles that had an interesting tundra listed, every single one was pre-sold. One local dealer had several trd pros listed, all of them already sold, many long gone. Seemed like a scumbag practice to me. Dealer I visited and ultimately got the green one from had 7 “in stock” on the website but only 2 on the lot. Many dealers had zero in stock even if the website had a few listed. (Any trim).

I wasn’t able to find a reliable search online. One dealer told me every tundra they get allocated is presold long before it hits the lot.

I think by now its luck if you can find a LunaRock. There are not going to be many built. I got mine from another dealer close by because the salesman I deal with went to his manager and he told him he cannot get a LunaRock.

I am with you. Seems some of the fawning over LR has to do with their scarcity. LR sounds cool...but it looks mint green to me in many of these pictures. Not sure what other color really compliments it besides black. Even that red trim on the wheel caps, while distinct, seems a bit off to me. My choice of colors when I bought mine was silver followed by white. Luckily they had silver!

It changes color in the light. Cloudy days looks like cement others greenish mint.

I don't know... buying a new truck to hopefully come out with a profit is a stretch. Sure it's happening now, but it's not guaranteed to continue. Buy the truck that YOU want and try not think of it as an investment. In fact, that's what real estate, stocks, etc is for.
