What do you TOW with your Tundra?

We're thinking about one of these with the bunks in the back.

 

Have you checked the geo pro 21bhs ? Was thinking about one myself

 

@Cpl_Punishment I shopped most of the Forest River brands, the build quality is excellent, I had started looking at R-Pods, then Geo Pro's and then this one just felt right. I don't think you can go wrong with the Rockwood or the Geo Pro models. Good luck!

 

I'll add that one to the list too but I was thinking tandem axle.

 

My parents in law have a Rockwood Mini Lite 2104S and they've been pretty happy with it.

I would prefer not to have a U-dinette but that's a pretty minor inconvenience.

I agree. No need to tow that slow with the right trailer. If I had a big ass trailer, I'd be worried about my family and would tow slow. My trailer is 22 ft and the Tundra crushes it. Two axles though.

Of course it does. This is the best way to haul.

 

I was going to do this same thing. But with a basic tri ball from Home Depot. Then I thought I would have a great drop hitch with all three normal ball sizes. Ended up being more expensive than the B&W so went with them instead.

 

My dream is to one day own an Airstream.

“Quality” and “camper” should never be used in the same sentence.

 

Most campers are built for a price point. A majority of people who buy them are looking for something affordable that they can use for quality time with their family. I think there are plenty of “good enough” quality brands out there and why spend more on a depreciating asset.

I bought my Platinum slightly used in 2016 for $42k, put another 85k miles on it and just traded it in for $29k. I would have lost about the same value for an SR and my truck was paid for. Would have sold it private party but with the $3k worth of sales tax credit on the trade it wasn’t worth the hassle.

I got my Grand Design Imagine 2800BH for 31k. I would call it “good enough” quality but it obviously isn’t an Airstream. An equivalent Airstream layout would be at least three times the price and a Lance would be about double. An upgrade of your trailer is a far more expensive move that an upgraded Tundra.

 

You don’t exceed your hitch weight with this trailer? I just purchased a 26’ mini lite and I’m exceeding. Cant even put the family in the truck with me.

 

Check out a Forest River Grey Wolf 23DBH.. it's a GREAT trailer with a second door leading directly into the bathroom.

 

I think the Airstream hold their value better and are no doubt less maintenance due to materials and design. We looked at them but they were not a fit for us. To get the size trailer and full bath we wanted would have required us to go to a 3/4 or one ton to pull it due to the hitch weight.

 

Check the Winnebago 2100bh , this one is a good option , on the expensive side

 

Airstreams do hold their value well as a %, but the actual value drop is still going to be more if comparing new. Even if my $30k trailer value drops $20k in ten years, the $110k+ Airstream will drop much more than $20k over the same time period. A significant amount of people will need to finance it also, and end up paying way more in interest.

I guess it might be possible to look at the depreciation curve on an Airstream and buy a used one at its best value point. They also don’t have slide-outs, feel more cramped inside.

 

Sorry man but this is just wrong. Having owned a 2017 forest river and having a neighbor who has a 15 year old forest river I can tell you they are absolute garbage. I mean go look at RV trader and sort things by the oldest year. There is a huge drop off in the 15-25 year range. There are a few quality travel trailers out there but these are not them. These have nice features, layouts and they look nice. They are also disposable.

Out of 130k RVs for sale there are maybe 1.5k for sale that are over 15 years old. How are you guys OK with that?

 

I think where Airstream make since is the used market. If you go buy a 30k used Airstream it very likely will be worth more than what you bought it for in 10-15 years. It takes some planning to do it right though.

Used or new just about any other travel trailer will loose a lot more money in that time frame.

 

My wife found one of those on Facebook Marketplace. It was unclear if it was new or 1 year old but they wanted $40k CAD for it. But when I check the dealer websites, it looks like they don't have any of those anywhere so I can understand the price.

I suspect trailer prices will drop once things go back to "normal" and regular travel opens up again. Should be able to find some almost new, lightly used trailers for sale. Going to hold out on buying until then.

 

Fiberglass Eggs like mine and others also are insane as for resale and have a lot less stick build in them too which helps them stay relevant and useful well past the time of most others.
They are not for everyone though and I could not be more happy about that!

 

I agree. These are one of the few trailers I would spend my hard earned money on, or recommend to a friend.

The quality of these trailers matches perfectly with the quality of these pickups.

 

Total sales of trailers skyrocketed this year. Once we get past COVID a bunch of these first time campers will decide to sell. The slightly used market could be saturated by next year, I’ll bet there will be some great deals to be had!

 

I agree and have seen other posts regarding the same. People will eventually do more cruise ships and foreign travel that will have people dumping their trailer. I bought a pop up Aliner a few years ago that suited my needs. A TT might be on the horizon but it will be a used one most likely.
