I don't plan on doing anything super crazy or "build-worthy" to my truck any time soon, but figured this would be a good way to chronicle all the random tinkering I've done over the last couple years.

Thanks man. I'm really happy with it. I keep joking with my wife that once it's 7 years old it's time for a supercharger and long travel... At least she thinks I'm joking.

    Suspension Pic Dump

Take offs from a 2016 TRD Pro, with about 20k miles on them. Got them from another member on here.
    IMG_1276.jpg

    Rears installed
    IMG_1317.jpg

A buddy of mine thought it would be fun to help break some bolts loose on the front suspension. He was wrong. My kid found the 4 way and was "helping" in the background.
    IMG_1318.jpg

Figuring out a plan of attack. We're IT guys, btw...
    IMG_1334.jpg

Victory! Got one side of the front in after struggling for a couple hours. I was also hot as balls out when we did this.
    IMG_1319.jpg

Lots of jacks and jack stands.
    IMG_1320.jpg

The kid inspecting our work. He liked that they were red. I think it was his favorite color that day.
    IMG_1324.jpg

Fresh takeoffs that found a new home pretty quickly.
    IMG_1337.jpg

    Post-lift pic. Nice and level.
    IMG_1341.jpg

About a year later I decided to add a couple Coachbuilder shims to the front. This time my father in law wanted to get in on the fun. It went much smoother this time.
    PXL_20201008_001518705.MP.jpg

    PXL_20201008_160309748.MP_Original.jpg

Maxtrac shackles installed on the rear, added 1" of lift. I'll eventually swap out the bushings for some Coachbuilder ones, but the stock ones work fine for now.
    PXL_20201008_185148227.MP.jpg

Current stance. Got a little bit of rake back and it looks just the way I wanted.

Lol, not a damn thing! Just noting that we aren’t garage pros or anything. We both know our way around vehicles, but were far from experts in that situation.

    Audio/interior electronics pic dump

First real project I tackled after I got my truck was swapping out the 12v plugs for USB ports. Did the back seat, center console and drivers side under the climate controls:
    IMG_20181104_154646.jpg
    IMG_20181104_154639.jpg
    IMG_20181109_093057.jpg

Added an amp (JL J2 250.1) and sub (JL 10W1v2-8, more on this one later) (free from a truck my FIL bought for a beater vehicle and then parted out) using high level inputs and splicing into the rear output signal under the passenger seat:
    IMG_0306.jpg
    IMG_0307.jpg
    IMG_0308.jpg

Next, and best upgrade so far for audio quality and functionality, put in a Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX head unit, with wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. Went cheap initially and used a Crux SWC kit instead of Maestro MRR (replaced later):
    IMG_0375.jpg
    IMG_0382.jpg

Routed the aftermarket microphone to the location of the stock mic in the overhead console:
    IMG_1833.jpg
    IMG_1834.jpg

Added a front camera to the new head unit:
    IMG_20200514_180030.jpg

Original mounting spot on SR5 grille:
    IMG_20200207_172839.jpg

    Mounted in Pro grille:
    IMG_20200514_145535.jpg

12Volt.Solutions remote car starter with cell module:
    IMG_1838.jpg

Added wireless charger to the center console lid. I originally mounted to the bottom of the inset, but got inconsistent performance due to the thickness of the plastic and the phone cases we used. I cut out the shape of the charger and used black epoxy to hold it in place:
    IMG_20191227_193621.jpg

Replaced speakers with JBL GTO 609c components in front and rear doors. Initially bypassed the stock amp and powered them off the head unit, which worked pretty well:
    IMG_20191023_121242.jpg
    IMG_1283.jpg

The doors have since been coated in sound deadener, and will eventually do the inside of the door skins to get rid of a few remaining rattles.

Front and rear view dash cam:
    IMG_1282.jpg
    IMG_1014.jpg

Swapped the Crux SWC with a Maestro RR. Wish I had originally added this, since it gave back the heads up music option, plus anytime rear camera capabilities:
    63217531590__B9A72591-51D0-426D-93A7-3AB3D45A0414.jpg

Most recent addition, Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000X5 5-channel amp:
    IMG_1240.jpg

Swapped the 8 gauge power kit with a 4 gauge:
    IMG_1234.jpg

Pained the MDF amp rack that I fabbed up to use the stock amp mounting points and tidied up the wiring a bit:
    IMG_1279.jpg IMG_1280.jpg

While doing the final tuning, I made the discovery that my sub was actually an 8-ohm model. I had originally planned on waiting to replace that for a while, but since I had to nearly max out the gains on the amp and head unit to get it sounding decent, that's been moved up higher on the list:
    IMG_1261.jpg

Thinking I'll eventually go with a single 12" shallow mount RF Punch model or two 10s. I've seen James at tech12volts selling the newer version of this sub, so might go that route too.

Ordered some more sound deadening material and added to the inside of the door skins today. I think I finally got rid of all the rattles that I was hearing at certain low frequencies.
    D5EC6664-75D0-4319-B0B6-A590172C0E0B.jpg

Finally snapped a pic of the actual door sound deadening I did a while ago. I will probably touch it up now that I have extra material.
    172D2EA7-943D-47D6-94BB-7D0864211F37.jpg

It feels like everything just sounds better after that little bit of extra material.

White Knuckle Off Road sliders arrived today! Top notch all the way. The packing was great, the construction is awesome, and the powder coat showed up perfect.

A buddy came over and gave me a hand getting them mounted. We ran out of time to do the drilled holes, so they’re glorified steps for now, but I’ll get the rest drilled and bolted tomorrow. Bring on the rocks!

Upgraded floor mats from the poor-fitting Weather Tech rubber mats that came with the truck to some take-offs from a Trail Edition

Was able to get the drivers side holes drilled and bolted for the sliders yesterday... did not have the motivation to get he passenger side done. Just did the pilot holes over there and hoping to complete today.

Got the passenger side slider fully bolted on today. Man, those half inch holes are a bitch. I’m a little sore now. I either need better bits, a better drill, or not be such a wuss, or a combo of the 3.

Some other stuff that I forgot in the first pic dump(s):

    Hidden bumper light bar:

Picked up a cheap-ish light bar from Amazon (Rigidhorse 32 inch) and used these brackets

    MVIMG_20200830_150211.jpg
    MVIMG_20200830_123152.jpg

Shot of the Coachbuilder bumper shims that were installed a while back for the 34's
    MVIMG_20200830_113716.jpg

I came back a few months later and fixed my shitty job I did on the Rigid fog light brackets I hacked together. The lock nut and carriage bolts I used caused some pain and suffering... I ended up having to take a dremel cutting wheel to the carriage bolt head to get a slot for a flat head screwdriver.

Thanks man. I've got grand plans of opening up the headlights and doing the same to those, but I might just get OEM Pro LEDs and sell the SR5 LEDs. :spending:

After a long weekend, I decided that project will wait a day or two.

The difference between the Pro and Off Road skid plate is night and day. The stock one feels like tinfoil.

Now I think the only Pro feature I'm missing is the stamped bedsides!

Started to work on a DIY traction control disabler module. There’s a really good option available for about $125 through a couple different guys on here, but I’m cheap and like to play with electronics, so…

    F56DBDB1-DA2E-401E-8A69-D05BBB7B20B0.jpg

It’s a basic 12 volt multi-function timer that you can program to do about whatever you want, as far as 12 volt pulses go. It took me about an hour screwing around with it, but I was able to get it to simulate 2 3-second pulses on my multimeter with a bench power source. Now I’m just waiting on the button to get here and I’ll have those paired up, so I can only have it active when I’m off road and actually need it. Don’t need the wife driving it and hammering the gas into the car in front…
