Toyota 'speaker wire adapter' too short! [SOLVED]

Installing my speaker kit, it shipped with some speaker adapter cables that ostensibly make the work plug-n-play.

But they are too short! My speakers are Hertz and they come with little component tweeters. I could crimp them to the butt plugs that are already installed on the supplied cables.

However... I can neither do the connection outside the speaker since then the speaker plugs would not reach, nor can I do it inside the speaker cavity since then the butt joints would remain inside.

Kind of thinking I'll need to chop up that adapter and salvage the speaker end plugs, throw away the rest. Then crimp a pair of new butt joints on the raw cable and T off to both the tweeter and the mid.

 

You’re supposed to pull it through the door and plug it in from the back. Make sure you secure the wire so it doesn’t interfere with the window track.

 

Could you not feed the connector inside the door?

 

Closest hole is several inches away, that would subtract even more from the usable length of the adapter. Doesn't seem to reach the speaker posts.

 

Well 1lowlife, ended up doing something like you suggested. I was hamstrung at first since the OEM speaker wires are taped to a bundle of other wires on the door. I just separated it from the bundle and now I have at least a foot of extra length! I'll find an opening for it.

 

The wire is coming through a rubber grommet. Cut a slice in the grommet and push it through to the back side.

 

That helps to solve part of the problem, I can indeed make things reach a little better.

It's apparent that the new tweeter is inconvenient. The factory tweeter had a plug, the new tweeter must be hard wired. No way to even transfer the old plug to the new tweeter, the original was part of the OEM tweeter.

Ended up extending the supplied cables a little. Still not totally happy, would really like the tweeters to be detachable but since they come with a very long wire perhaps it won't really be an issue. I'm thinking ahead to when a window motor breaks and I must take apart the door again, or when I must replace the window seals (I consider those a wear item.)

Looks like this. At least I can now make the tweeter crimp connection where it is easy to do rather than it live inside the door.

 

Where did you get that speaker adapter plate ?? Looks heavy duty non buzzing/rattling unit. I won a set for my '15
