2022 Tundra

People are seeing 'higher temps' but no reported transmission problems (yet). Upgrading to an external cooler is always an option for those who feel the need. really more of an internet issue..... Trannys are another thing all together... lol

 

I thought I read of one or two that did fail. Now one or two can easily be attributed to random failures, they are mechanical parts after all.

I will say the higher transmission temps and needing a V8 are very much along the same lines - this is new and some don't like it.

 

I am pretty much convinced that Toyota really does not care what we want and that they will let us know what we want when they are good and ready.

Looking back at the development of a lot of the Toyota platforms you can see that we have really had little idea of what they were about to unleash upon us and didn't embrace it anyway when they did.
Then through time and reliability evidence we have come to accept that which we are given and then we embrace these new things as though we have always wanted them anyway!

Maybe we are not smart enough to imagine what they already have and do not know what is best for us anyway.

They are really just saving us from ourselves!

I am told that they are selling the new Sienna as fast as they can get them as a good case in point.
It is not only supremely ugly to look at but is a full Hybrid drivetrain moving a bloated too large Mini Van.

People seem to be loving them.

Why do we think we know any better?

 

Most people are not car people. It's a necessity for them. They go to a lot the main thing they ask the salesman is good gas mileage and the color of car they want. They dont know a thing. It's a rare customer that walks on the lot and asks the salesman, are these hydraulic lifters? What's the gearing on this truck compared to a F150? Body on frame? Most people would think that means their grandparents hurt themselves falling on a picture....

When you dont know what you want it's easy for someone to dictate or manipulate your own opinion.

 

So true for many 1/2 ton buyers now. The number of F150 owners who go on forums or in person tell other truck owners that their truck can haul over 3000 lbs and tow over 13k lbs is very high. Problem is you have a crew cab FX4 so just from that you know they're just spewing back the brochure, not realizing those numbers are for a very specific 2WD with heavy duty package. They just want to be in something bigger, see the brochure, then like sitting in the truck so they buy it, no research into what they're buying. I've had a couple fun conversations where I asked them to look at their door sticker and they saw the true numbers for their truck.

 

Alot of the save the v8 crowd act like they're being forced to buy the TTV6 when it arrives. If you don't want it, keep your current tundra or buy a 21'. The other manufacturers will also sell you a v8.

Claiming the v8 is better for people who do "truck stuff" even though the TTV6 will have a better torque curve and more power is reaching. If you want to go with that argument the only real option for you guys that do truck stuff is a diesel.

It reminds me of the bass boat crowd when the 2 strokes started going away. Everyone pissed and moaned that they'd never give up their 2 stroke because it did all they needed it to do and it wasn't broke so don't fix it even though the 4s runs off and leaves the 2s through acceleration because it has more torque.
Most of them are running 4s now and you couldn't pay them to run a 2s

 

Yup. It's like the commercial they saw is what sold them. Probably didnt even know that sticker exists or even how to hook a trailer up. Problem is those are the people that have the biggest voice in the decisions car manufacturers make.

 

I'm pretty sure it would be in Toyota's best interest to make a one off tow king just like Ram and Ford (GM do it too, just to a lesser extent). As long as the volume model is competitive those with knowledge won't get turned off by the advertising - which I think is borderline false advertising. Make a stripped out RCLB 2WD, even if it needs beefed up suspension mounting points for a heavy duty package, just to make the max numbers look very good.

 

I thought 2 strokes had better acceleration than 4 strokes. The hole shot for waterskiing is what would worry me about a 4 stroke.

 

You just have to sell the German cars when the warranty expires to avoid the kraut tax.

 

I know on sleds you are correct. I'm very sour Ski-doo got rid of the 550 2 stroke - loved working with that engine. Very snappy, great throttle control, and enough power to just get you into trouble . The 4 stroke 600 just feels like you're on a lawn tractor that you have run full throttle to get up on the snow. Maybe it's the CVT in sleds that makes 2 strokes much nicer, but always felt they had better response in everything.

 

Maybe on bikes and sleds but bassboat hulls, nope. The 4s has alot more low end and mid range torque.

 

More strokes are always better.

I'd like to know why people are so obsessed with buying "new". Just keep your current tundra. Need to tow more? Get a used diesel, they're everywhere and priced good, you don't need a fancy new one. Reliability trumps any and all creature comforts. My 95 7.3 has 296k miles and I wouldn't hesitate to hook up to my camper and haul it to Alaska if I needed to. It's dead reliable.

With that said, I'm very excited to see the new tundra and the specs on it. Will I get one? No. I'll go test drive one for fun. I get alot of enjoyment racking up the miles on my tundra. I'm trying to get as many miles on it as possible. By this time next year it should be at a quarter million miles.

You would be surprised. I can't remember the exact number, but The Woman's uncle (FCR sales manager) told me that studies in the car sales industry have something like 70% (again, give or take a bit) of people buying a new car every 5 years or so. Some brands like RAM average every 3 years. That's part of the reason you're seeing 96 month financing terms and he says 120 months has happened. It's a combination of rising car prices and the fact that most buyers are rolling in negative equity. Us Toyota guys are some of the very few who actually keep our vehicles long enough to pay them off and then some. I read somewhere that Toyota owners keep their vehicles for 15 years on average.

 

I know alot of guys that do but they work in the oil field so they have money to burn when they're working. Then work slows down and their truck gets repossessed, then they go back to work just to buy another new truck, and the cycle repeats. But you can't talk sense into them. I work about 5-6 months out of the year so I have to watch my spending when I'm off work and keep enough put back for major expenses that may come up. All of my bills combined are cheaper than some people's truck notes that I know a welder I work with has a $1200 truck note.....

Haha, I am with you. I am no insider by any means. The General Manager of a Toyota dealership has kids same age as ours. Their daughter is on our soccer and cheerleading t am. I have got to know him over the past 3 years pretty well. Hang out and drink some beers at cheer competitions, etc....

He will never disclose specifics, but he says once we have a meeting or know if it is a 2022 or 2023 I will let you know. According to him, there has been absolutely ZERO communication, meetings, slides, with dealers. Only thing they know is there is new trucks being spotted with blankets on them and have no idea if it is even a new Tundra. He highly doubts it will be 2022 for new release due to troubles building them, building up inventories, etc....

He is 100% straight shooter with me. If there was a meeting or any kind of details, he would say, "Hey man, you are going to be real excited about the new Tundra" or "It sure is different...."

This is a dealer that is top 20% in sales annually with Toyota also......

 

Maybe you should check some of the other threads on this forum. It has been a problem if you tow. I'm guessing you don't and that's OK.

 

I haven't seen any issues with the 2019-21 transmissions having issue no more so than any other year. The only reported problems are higher trans temps during heavy towing. I've been a tech for over 30 years so I guess I do know but that's OK.

I guess you read it on a forum so it must be true. I'll take first hand experience at the dealership level. We have not had any issues with the 19-21 transmissions.

I bet lots of people will keep their V8 antique. Me included. I honestly agree with you on this, they do act like a gun is being pointed at them... that or FOMO.

When you compare Forced Induction to NA all arguments are moot. If it were up to most of us, we'd all have a V8 or whatever for fun and a Diesel for work/heavy towing. That would cover all needs.

All engines are made with a specific use in mind, no one here needs to be reminded of that. But if FI was so great for everyday use or hard work, everything would be turbo or sc'd, it's been out there and perfected for a heck of a long time already, so why would manufacturers spend the resources to develop modern V8's when a TTV6 can do the same?...

The Auto industry gets very retarted when politicians make threats. It's best to comply and make $, consumers are sheep anyway, right?
