I feel fine. I'd feel better if Toyota would come out with a TTV6 Tundra like Ford so I can get the best of all worlds instead of capitulating to people who hear the word turbo and start shaking.

One issue is how car engines are tuned vs. truck engines. Truck engines sacrifice top end for low end grunt, so you'll pop off the line good but then run out of power essentially. Compare the 5.0 in the F150 to the 5.0 in the Mustang, there's roughly 60 more HP in the Mustang.

I'm expecting the Tundra V6TT to be almost identical to the standard 3.5 EB, and hopefully a HO version on a couple trims. It's in the potential hybrid version that I see the Tundra jumping ahead. But it'll still lag quite far behind the good turbo engines you speak of in cars, they're just tuned for completely different applications.

Wait, how is a TTV6 straight up better than a V8? Go compare F150's straight up in real world, 5.0 vs. 3.5 - come back with the results. Heck for those who do 'truck stuff' the NA V8 is just as good as the hybrid, except at a lower price point. Don't believe me go check out TFL truck on Youtube and watch a bunch of their F150 videos and piece it together. Do a little research and you will see that not only is a V8 just as good as a TTV6, the Tundra is very competitive dollar for dollar with the big 3 even 14 years later.

I find it interesting how Toyota has utilized Superchargers for decades while offering just a few Turbocharged engines during the same time period, but now it sounds like they are eliminating the Supercharger in favor of the Turbo.

It's tuning and hardware. I am almost certain that the mustang 5.0 and truck 5.0 have different camshafts, some changes to the cylinder head, etc.

The stupid part is the new mustang 5.0 just about blows away the F150 5.0 everywhere, low end and top end. BUT...premium fuel. I really can't think of a truck other than a raptor that really requires Premium. It's a crutch.

GM 6.2L requires/ highly recommends premium 93 octane fuel.. now that I think about it, my Ram Hemi recommended 89, and I know the Titan requires 91. But what do I know as a 50 year old that is adverse to change.

I had a 2012 3.5EB F150 and a 2013 5.0L F150. The EB suffered from condensation issues. At 100% humidity with 3 different intercoolers (like driving in a rainstorm), it would suck in the condensation and misfire a cylinder on hard throttle like passing and go into limp mode. Traded it and got the 5.0. No issues until 95,000 when the fuse for the fuel pump melted because it was not a big enough fuse. There was a TSB issued for that fuse but never a recall, so I got lucky and replaced it under extended warranty for $100. While Ford does make millions of trucks, that was two in a row that caused issues for me, so I traded the 2013 and got a 2018 Tundra. Only recall so far was the turn signal brightness.

It is speculation but the reporter is a veteran of the Japanese auto industry. He was an automotive engineer in several Japanese companies and teaches companies how to adopt Toyota's practices now. TFL Talks just had him on discussing the Tundra.

I have a 2020 Bullitt with the 5.0 Gen 3 Coyote (480 HP) runs fine on regular, but to get max power and performance you need to run 91 or higher. I only drive it 5-6K a year, so I don't mind running 93. Motor shines above 4K, builds power and runs like a mad dog to redline at 7500RPM. The Truck is tuned very, VERY differently. If I used the car as a DD, I would run regular with no worries. I regularly get 28-30 MPG when just cruising on the highway at 70-75.

Total blast to drive and just like the Tundra was my first Toyota, this is my first Ford. GREAT value for the money, the best IMO American performance coupe. I was looking at a 3 year old M4 (just came off 10 years in an M3) for the same out the door price. Ford did this car right.

I think that even without a retuning, the LS TTV6 would be an improvement on towing ability. It's 442lb.ft. of torque is at 1600-4800 rpm!!! Versus the current 401 @ 3600. While I'm diehard Toyota man, I talked my old boss into getting the 3.5 ecoboost over a V8. He would be buying Ford anyway. And driving and pulling a loaded enclosed trailer, hands down the Ford seemed to do it easier. In 2013 the 3.5EB had 420lb.ft at 2400rpm. Holeshot for sure. But I know he's had a dealer trip a time or 2. One for coolant disappearing. Another friend I think just replaced his turbos on a 2016 3.5.

Probably my next car. I'm a recovering Mustang addict, had several Fox bodies over the years until my last one scared me away from "straight-line" power. I strayed to WRXs because they were faster on road courses, then ended up going full on into the modified AMG world because there's nothing like a 700HP E class sedan that draws almost zero attention but can embarrass just about anything on the road. But in the end, we all come back to a nicely sorted out V-8 Mustang, because they're just badass. I just wish Ford would bring back a stripped down hi-po version like the old notchback LXs from the early 90's.

Reading through this thread, the Toyota fanboyism is incredible. Don't get me wrong, my Tundra is great, but it took Toyota a while to get it there. Many have written things like "you know Toyota is going to a great job on this TTV6 (+/-) hybrid." , or "you know they'll do a better job than Ford with a V6 turbo.' "the TTV6 is sure to be an improvement over the current truck." Why? What is the evidence?

Evidence matters. The last time Toyota put a V6 in the Tundra, it was a shotty. They dropped the trans cooler in 2019 and people who tow are running high temps. Even though Toyota says these temps are "ok", people are having trans problems now in a transmission that never had them before. Many agree that the newest V6 in the Taco was/is a crappy dog. The last time they did a major update on the Tundra (2007), there where all kinds of problems.

So I hope Toyota comes up with something incredible right out of the gate, but the evidence is questionable at best. I'm not at all adverse to change, I just prefer evidence to speculation.

I hope there is no V8 in the new Tundra, because my Tundra value will continue to go up. I'll bet Toyota will eventually put one back in the Tundra a few years down the road.

The TTV6 is rumored to be the one from the Lexus, and in the current form in that car it will have more HP/torque and a better torque curve than the 5.7. Yes we don't have confirmation that it's the engine, but if it is it will be better than the 5.7 in it's current form.

In 2007 the big issue I remember was the frame issue, but that wasn't a Tundra specific issue - so what other Toyota issues have you suspecting there could be a continuing issue on the Tundra?

As for the hybrid have you driven other Toyota hybrids? They're impressive so why would the Tundra be any different?

And let's say the new Tundra turns out to be a dud; how does a new gen flop increase your trucks value? Not like the Tundra is a rare truck, and the other 4 put out very solid options, so how many people are Toyota only? There's nothing special that the current Tundra has that would inflate it's value any more. If anything your Tundra will be at peak value right now because of production shortages for everyone, once production goes back to normal the bubble will burst and all vehicles will start depreciating again.

Fanboys? Of course... This is a Tundra site afterall

I love my truck, but not a Toyota or Tundra devotee..... Is my first. I really wanted a GMC AT4 or Power Wagon, but the TRD PRO was what I was looking for at 15-20K less MSRP, and 8-10K less Out the Door.

Like many, I believe Toyota's marketing and management of the Tundra has been hamfisted and neglectful, but it is the customer to blame. Sales have been mostly level the last 10 years, so why bother adding an AC outlet in the bed and cab, or upgrade the 4WD system similar to the Tacoma's, or, or or. They had a bullet proof powertrain, solid profitable sales (and only build what is ordered so no wasted stock), and made minor upgrades.

If they keep the same trim philosophy on the new truck, limited tech, 4WD systems, interior accessories and options, and only a single powertrain choice, I think it is fair to assume that their sales numbers will stay the same. If they are happy with that, and continue to make a well built reliable truck at a profit, more power to them. This is the USA and if it isn't what you want, you have at least 3 very viable options.

I would love to see Toyota offer a HD truck along side the LD Tundra. I would hate to see the only engine option be a series of V6 offerings, even if the TTV6 makes more power and torque than the outgoing V8. But looking at the current administration's philosophy and the Eurochasing trend of American politics and culture, I think new V8 motors are dead. Some manufactures have even announced they will stop developing new ICE technology. I have full confidence that the current administration is dead set on killing the industry, but can't decided if they want to ban our guns first.

Here is a fun fact, while all these enviro psycho's fret about passenger car emissions, Maritime transport produces 940 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, and just one of these container ships produces the same amount of pollution as 50 million cars. JUST Fifteen of the biggest mega-ships alone account for as much pollution as all 760 million cars worldwide do. So while these @$$h@t$ kill my ability to pursue my passion for ICE vehicles (3 antique cars, 4 antique motorcycles, and 4-5 modern), they raise gasoline taxes and make it harder and more expensive to own every year. And the same ___ ____ ___ ____ (not family friendly) politicians will ensure we import as much Chinese $h!t as possible. #ucker$........

What surprises me more is anyone who visits an enthusiast forum and expects something different. Sure there will be the moderates, couldn’t-care-less’, and the practical ones, but the majority are enthusiasts, fanboys, or whatever other moniker they are labeled as. This goes the same across most singular forums like apple, android, Ford, Chevy, vegans, keto foods, flat-earthers, Sasquatch finders, etc. Why would a Tundra site be expected to be any different? The title
Literally says “ Toyota Tundra Enthusiasts.”
