Sorry for the duplicate thread. I didn't realize I posted the first one in the builds section.

Has anyone else experienced a slightly rough idle with their new Tundras? I haven't modified anything in the engine bay or tuned the ECU. I've had my truck since new, it has 7k miles on it now, but the idle has been rough (intermittently) since I purchased it.

They did install a TRD dual exhaust at the dealer, but I doubt that would be the issue?

I doubt it. I use Costco gas, and their shit is pretty good. Occasionally I use the 76 down the street, but mainly Coscto. This issue was noticeable even on my test drive, but I didn't think anything of it, being new and all...

    Function before sparkle.
Very possible. If the flow is blocked it can cause rough idle.

What's your definition of bad idle? mine was fluctuating, it doesn't do it all the time then turns out it was a pending code of P2441, which was secondary air injection pump valve.

My definition is... I feel it while stopped... lol. I can feel the excessive vibration of the motor in the cab occasionally. It'll do it for a few seconds, and then go away.

I don't think my scanner would show me any pending codes. I need a better scanner.

Is it possible you have defrost or AC on and it's causing the RPMS's to move around? I don't have the TRD exhaust but the extra sound may make the change in idle more noticeable.

No AC. It's been cold since I bought the truck in the PNW. I've noticed it during warm up, after driving, with/without heat. It's just a noticeable shakiness that comes and goes.

I haven't really paid too much attention to the RPMS when it happens. I just noticed the shakiness. I just feel like a brand new motor shouldn't be running that way. I was hoping it was just break in pains, but still does it at 7k.

Keep an eye on the rpm, do you have an aftermarket intake?

Nope. All stock besides the dealer installed exhaust. I should probably check the airbox to see what kind of filter is in there. I'm not sure if they installed a K&N or TRD one or anything.

It's a brand new truck under warranty. Why are you trying to solve this? Take it back to the dealer.

Have you done anything with the battery, disconnected it or had a low battery. I've found a rough idle after a battery disconnect, just computer relearning settings.

Never disconnected the battery. I don't think...

Because I'm a nerd and I like to learn how things work, and try to solve issues myself. But I also just wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue with their new truck. If it was common, I wouldn't think too much about it.

It is not common, make an appt with the dealer to check it out

I've experienced this as well. I have 19 TRD PRO. It is intermittent. It doesn't feel like an actual misfire, it isn't that rough.

I haven't been able to identify the exact conditions.

Only thing I can think of is the system is doing some sort of sweep, or test, of cam timing from advance to retard. It feels like cam timing is off just a bit.

Yeah this feels like what mine is doing. It isn't that rough, but it's noticeable and intermittent. It's going to be tough to diagnose, even at the dealership because of how intermittent it is.

I am kinda like: It's not worse, not better, happens somewhat infrequently.

When there is a code set I'll worry.

    But...it is a Toyota so...not losing sleep.

Hate to be a homer but...kinda true.
