I just really hope the front end is not going to be that ugly! If that’s the real front end I will be keeping my 2020 until it’s dead!!

While I am very skeptical of the long term durability of turbo gas motors, we cannot judge the quickness of the V6 tundra yet, as it will likely have a 10 speed (guessing?) transmission which will accelerate very different from a 6 speed

Everything I’ve read and been told is that gas powered turbo engines can be very reliable. I also don’t mind the front end of these speculative front ends. I seem to be the only one.

From my understanding the Ecoboost has been very reliable. It’s the other shit on a Ford that goes south.

They might be now but they were not at one time. I was once a Ford owner and on the F150 forum and got lots of notices about people having problems.

I am definitely not one to defend Ford because of the two I’ve had they were junk but based on the actual numbers of reported problems to miles driven with the Ecoboost it is in fact a reliable engine.

Well, the Toyota should kick ass then because the Ecoboost is the least of Fords problems.

A quick Google of that points to the issue being in the fuel system somewhere. Not the actual power train. Again, everything else on the Ford may be a POS but they have been pretty successful with the Ecoboost.

The V8 in half tons and vehicles in general is being phased out. Manufacturers are learning to achieve more gains with other platforms. I’m good with it and won’t have an issue buying the next gen.

To a consumer, a failure is a failure, whether it be fuel system, or power-train, it doesn't matter. If it requires a trip tp the dealer to fix, it is a reflection of the overall vehicle quality.

....because it's a change from the traditional V8 truck and most Tundra owners (40-60) don't do "change" well.

Agreed. Just like the cam tower leak. They all have issues. But, the focus was on the V6 twin turbo reliability and that’s where my point was.

Totally understandable and not necessarily a bad thing. The Tundra hasn't changed hardly at all in over a decade, which plays a big role in its reliability, which is a big part of why most of us are even here in the first place.

Cool. Better fuel economy and the premium fuel will negate that plus some.

Agreed this is click bait BS. I have a hard time believing toyota will suddenly embrace turbocharging. Sure, they do it in a few of the Lexus models, but the risk is much lower as the lexus crowd is much less concerned about the 200k+ mile reliability.
I'm confident that when the new model finally comes around it will be a smaller V8 well performing engine... The tradeoff will be the 4-6 mpg gain. Same thing as the Taco, 4.0 down to 3.5, but similar or better specs.

The real thing I think to watch for in the new Tundra is if toyota will be able to shave pounds.

It seems like the TTV6 is likely to be the engine Toyota has chosen for the new Tundra. Has there been a consensus on the trans they will mate it with? That might also be a big determinative factor on the fears some will have on reliability.

It's definitely the most highly speculated. No one still has any official info from Toyota. You're probably right, but I'm still holding out hope for a TTv8. That with a hybrid on the higher trims would seem to fit the "world beater" moniker Toyota has given the thing. But who knows? It seems that even dealers are still getting speculative info at this point.

The fact that we haven't seen interior shots of the test mules tells me that the undercarriage shot was leaked by Toyota. They are controlling the release of info on this truck. So far we know that it'll have a 5-link rear with coil suspension, 6-lug hubs, and the CrewMax will have a longer bed option. That much has been confirmed with photographic evidence. I don't think anything else has.

Totally agree. I think that would be the ideal situation for everyone involved except for Toyota lol. My post above is assuming the V8 is going away, which I guess is worst-case, but what seems to be the likely case.

Yeah. But a TTv6...how is tech that Ford has had since, what 2013, going to beat the world?
A TTv6 would be more like "World Joiner". :annoyed:

As a fairly new tundra fan I wish them success on whatever they decide to do. My V/8 is sitting in the driveway and that makes me very happy. We'll see what the future brings for the Tundra brand, we might be pleasantly surprised at what they come out with, stranger things have happened. :)

The 2007 Tundra was a world beater at that time and how long had the V8 been around? To be a world beater it doesn't have to be new, it has to be the best. I see this in the form of the hybrid, the TTV6 will be the standard option and not be special in any way.

I’ll toss out that my 5 year old BMW M235 i6 twin turbo is very smooth with an 8 speed. It’s a small car tho but it does fly. I change the oil a lot as I don’t put many miles on it and I want the twin Turbos to outlive me. A larger Toyota TTV6 will be interesting . My M235 get 30 mpg on longer trips. I’m sure the Tundra with a TTV6 will get better mpg, but unloaded (no towing). Probably perform like Ford’s in relative performance but hopefully better reliability.
