Truth! (Although on a Naval deployment, when you're in the Persian Gulf, 'AC' means it's only 95 degrees instead of the 110 outside. LOL)

OP, just a heads up that supply of Tundra's is extremely limited at the moment so it might be difficult to find one exactly like you want (1794, white, etc).

I've had em all. Tacoma, 4 runner, Tacoma, Tundra, Tundra. No real issues and definitely reliable.
I almost purchased a TrailBoss but couldn't make the jump. I was afraid of mechanical issues. Bought a used Platinum Tundra instead. Super Stoked.

As a young man my car problems went like this.
Toyota 22R: Tried to kill it, wouldn't die. Sold it for $600 to pay for a 350 long block for a Camaro. Needed a new clutch.
Plymouth: Head gasket, mom let me drive her car. oops
67 Camaro: (loved that car) electrical gremlins of my own design since I built it.
    84 Thunderbird: Motor seized
94 Mustang: within 1500 miles Oil leak, head gasket, Transmission and a host of other issues. Lemon law buy back.
96 Chevy 1500 Z71: Didn't make it to 100k. Injectors, Transmission, Electrical, Injectors again, Tranny again, motor mount. I babied that truck.
    2001 Tacoma: No Issues
    2006 4runner: No issues (wife's)
    2007 Tacoma: No Issues
2004 Tundra: Exhaust Manifold leak that I never fixed.
@150k started some small maintenance items and broken parts from hard driving and abuse on my part. Door handles, Door hinge, window motor.
2017 Tundra: CV boot ripped. Not sure how or why but guessing the 3" spacer lift that was on it when purchased contributed to the issue.

The 1794 is a sweet package. I don't think you'll regret it. And after towing with your Chevy I think you have an understanding of MPG posted and real world. The Tundra shouldn't be an issue for you at all.

I wouldn’t rush into it. I would hold off till the 2022 is announced. Even if you don’t go with the 2022 my guess is the 21s will be cheaper.

I too was at the dealer today and for the first time got to sit inside a 1794. I did not drive it though. The salesman said that it will sell around or at MSRP as all Tundras are at a premium now.

Did your dealer give you any hints about sales price? Or did you just test drive?

I am trying to figure out what the current trend is. People who bought just last year are reporting much more generous negotiating power.

    Welcome from Oregon Bama!

I am just shy of 50,000 in my 2018 Tundra SR5 CrewMax Offroad.

I drove my last vehicle, a brand new 2007 Camry for 170k with no real issues until I traded it in (at a hysterically diminished value) on my Tundra.

The only reason I would consider any other truck would be if I had to tow a trailer that went beyond the limits of the Tundra. Not an issue for me currently.

If you’re choosing between 1/2 tons, the Tundra is a no-brainer.

Post pics and bring your good ideas for fun upgrades!

I moved from GM products to my Tundra due to my last truck a 2011 Silverado 2500HD LTZ due to a huge class action lawsuit that GM won over 1000's of truck owners and they refused to fix customers dashboards even after admitting it was the cheap material that they had used. Here was my truck at 40,000 miles with no wheelin. Others had huge holes where their dashboards caved in. I traded mine before it happened.

I’ve documented my 14’ Sierra problems like crazy on this forum. That horrible pile of shit drove me to the waiting arms of Toyota.

What brought me back to Toyota was the problems I had. My 2007 Chevy Silverado had the transmission replaced at 3,000 miles. As soon as my lease was up I ditched that thing. Put the keys on the table, signed the sheet and took off. Then I bought a Ram. I loved that truck but, there was no way I was keeping that thing out of warranty. At 35,000 is was gone. Then I bought a Tundra. I am hoping to drive this one for 10 years which will be around 130,000 miles.

My only regret with my Tundra is that I didn’t get the platinum. I won’t make that mistake next time.

Wow the interior water damage in the OP's pic is lousy, to say the least. There is a lot to love with the Tundra. One of my favorite features with the Tundra has nothing to do with performance or stellar reliability....its the power rear window! I love dropping the whole window for the airflow.

I don't think any other manufacturer offers this....? Toyota has for years had this feature as an option in some trucks and SUV's.

We didn't get into price discussions since I did tell him I am waiting on GM to buy back. Sticker was $58-ish but he mentioned there are some available discounts when I'm ready.

It was a Barcelona red model. I have to say I'm kind of impressed with that color. Looks better in person than I expected.

@MoonRock2021 I remember that issue. Friend had a 2011 in Atlanta and his cracked but nothing to the extent yours did. That's awful.

@maxdriver I think the rear roll down is one of the coolest features on Tundras. No one else offers that.

Not that I know of....and yeah, it sounds silly, but for some reason that is also my absolute most favorite feature. (Especially when I eat beans. lolz) It cracks me up to watch the reaction of people behind me when I roll it down for some airflow....you'd think I just sprouted another head.

the only issue I have with Toyota is you have to get the Platinum or higher to get "standard options". Limited doesn't even come with memory seats. So be careful with lower trims and ensure it has options that have been standard on the big 3 for 20 years. If I would have knows I would have gone Platinum or nothing. SR5 I believe still have manual seats. I have zero issues with mine except some tick noises in interior which for most are irrelevant. Much better than troubleshooting a vibration, water leak, shift issue....

Trim level is a matter of personal preference. Most of my vehicles over the years have had leather seats. My TRD Sport has cloth. Love them. Comfortable, no need for heat or ventilation.

I am not into off-roading. My truck is setup for the street. Love the suspension that came with my Sport, TRD sway bars front and rear and Bilstein shocks. The lack of body roll is impressive.

I am a long-time car guy. Have had numerous sedans and coupes with manual transmissions. Cannot get over how much I enjoy driving this beast:thumbsup:

That Barcelona Red is growing on me. Esp since I could call it Crimson.

One little feature I wasn't expecting is the Easy Exit seat and steering wheel feature. The seat moves back and the wheel up when you turn off the truck. I haven't had that since my wife's 2012 Mercedes. I really like that.

This has been an interesting thread..
I loved my 2005 DC, but when I bought another trick in 2014, I strongly considered a GMC.

Glad I went with the Tundra again.
After owning a 1997 4-Runner, then the almost trouble free 2005 Tundra, other Tundra ended up being a no brainer..

SR5 Upgrade Package has a power driver's seat and manual passenger seat, which is on par with the volume trims from the other manufacturers.

My first Tundra, a 2015 Limited, (also Barcelona Red), and I love it! Best truck ever!!!! I love how it drives and especially how it tows my 29' travel trailer. I'm the second owner. It had 49,781 miles when I bought it and now has 66,500 miles on it. It was a decision between a 2015 Dodge Ram and the Toyota. So glad I went for the Toyota!

This is true, I get the same mileage if not slightly better in the Tundra vs the Rebel, and Rebel had 8spd transmission and cylinder shut offs, both are on same size tires too.

I tend to agree, with exception of the diesel half tons obviously. But my point was that was really the only complaint from owners when researching full size trucks, well that and lack of features but I didn't care about that. It's hard for domestic truck owners to be worried about their mileage when their cab is leaking or transmission is failing. While Tundra owners on the other hand complain about mileage because mechanically speaking not much else to complain about.

Half ton diesels each have their own drama, then you factor in the costs, to recoup the initial additional purchase price you would have to drive for 80k+ miles, then additional maintenance just makes it almost not worth it, we are probably seeing the last of half ton diesel right now, as hybrid will offer same mileage with better reliability.

with you being a crimson tide fan and the truck being Barcelona red, that’s practically fate! Throw some black wheels and it would be the ultimate tailgate truck.

Now all we need is to get your wife out of that jeep and into a 4 runner

Agreed, EPA will soon regulate half ton diesels out of the market. It's pretty clear that the market and regulations are moving towards electrified vehicles over alternative fuels.
