Good Deals on Tundras?

Anyone recently bought a new Tundra and get a good deal on it? The "limited stock" seems to be keeping dealers from really doing much on the price. I guess it also doesn't help what I want is "incoming".

Should I expect more or just stuck with the way it is right now?

 

What kind of discounts are they giving you? Anything off of MSRP?

 

You have one advantage IMO. You aren’t trading in a unit. But keep that to yourself until you have the price negotiated and documented.

 

I haven’t heard of getting deals currently, especially with the announcement of decreased production.

 

MSRP on the truck I'm looking at with everything added is $45,881. They said the "sale price" would be $44,157. So I guess that isn't to bad considering there isn't any rebates right now. I dunno.

 

Probably the best deal you can get right now unless you personally know a salesman. Only way to get a better deal is to wait IMO until supply catches back up and all this craziness stops, but by then the 2022's could be out.

 

Yeah, I wish I could wait but I can't. Truck got totaled so have to get something once all this insurance clears and get out of this disgusting rental car. Ha. Plus, if the '22 changes like they said, I may not want it anyway.

 

Exactly, with all the changes rumored I wouldn't want my money in the first year model. I just got mine used, went from 2017 Taco to 2017 Tundra and I decided to go used for the same reason your dealing with. All the new ones were overpriced IMO and I just watched the used market until one popped up that was reasonably priced.

 

I got my 2021 Limited TRD at invoice minus $1750 rebate in November in Ohio

 

deals are few and far between right now. But if they're willing to drop $1500 to $2000 you're doing okay with all things considered

 

I got my 2021 2 weeks ago and it was the only one on the lot. I went to 10 different dealers and they were the only one that would come off the MSRP and that was only $1k on top of the $1k incentive. Half of the dealers had no Tundras on the lot at all.

 

I bought my 21 last Monday for $44,500+TTL. Sticker was $50,700. I was suprised based on what I was seeing and what another dealer and sent. I drove down as soon as I could and put a deposit on the truck until it showed up.

 

Going to pick up my cement crewmax 4x4 2021 sr5 with bedliner Friday. Msrp 44500, I’m paying 41500 before ttl

 

I have heard that discounts on the the big 3 are at best half of the normal double digit discounts. Prices are crazy right now.

 

Bought my 21 DC TRD off road in Cav Blue last week, was able to get 3k in discounts and rebates off MSRP, was lucky to find a dealer who wasn't in a high traffic area.

 

You can find dealers out there that sell their inventory at MSRP, which is a good deal in today's environment depending on where you're at. I was happy to pay MSRP for my pro. Good luck on your search!

 

I purchased a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro Max last month for 54K and had to go three states away (800 miles). No one had anything closer other than dealer in Nashville who wanted 5k above sticker. Good luck

If you want to sale sale if not sit tight for a year. The economy is starting to reopen, it will be exponential. A year from now they will be sitting on the lots.

 

I respect your thoughts. But you run the risk of not getting what you really want. You loose out on a year of enjoyment. Lots of folks talking about no more V 8 engines. Most importantly I might be dead in a year as I’m an old man.

 

What I found, around the front range of Colorado, was that SR5s were easy to get still. If one wanted a Limited, TRD Pro, Platinum or a 1794 with a certain package or options the supply is getting pretty skinny. I got the only brown 1794 on the front range with an Off Road package as of Saturday. There were a few dealerships that were totally out of Tundras. Those same dealerships said the ones they had inbound were already sold. I wanted a Limited in the double cab. I called about three I saw advertised online. They were already sold. I called about a Night Shade Limited that was advertised online. It was sold. They said that their supply was just trickling in. They couldn't say if it was because Toyota is retooling for the 2022 Tundra or it it was the semiconductor shortage. I figured if I had to get the shorter bed Crewmax then I wanted a 1794 with the Off Road package. I found just one in all of the dealerships on the Front Range and it was Brown. I tried to negotiate a lower price. They dropped the price $500.00 and that was it. There were sales people that offered to take deposits on inbound trucks but they couldn't give me the slightest idea about when they were coming in. They usually said that it could take form weeks to months for those ordered trucks to come in. They also said that they couldn't take custom orders anymore.

You could have better luck wherever you are.

 

Pros are in a league of their own when it comes to discounts. When I bought my 2017 I was looking at Pro's. I had been negotiating with this dealer in East TX for a couple of months when he got a white Pro in. I made an offer and he said no MSRP. I told him I don't pay MSRP. He replied with "your loss". I said no yours.

 

Yes got a great deal on a limited.

 

This is a copy of another post on a similar topic on the forum I posted below, I got 3,735.00 off MSRP and did have a trade, was a decent deal as the Tundra inventory in New England is basically very few and most dealers don't have any, and the ones that do want full price:

My first post and great Tundra forum I have been using recently, bought a 2021 Tundra in March and had been looking for my perfect one with all options for a while starting in December 2020, not much inventory for most dealers in my area, and expanded my search to Toyota website and only saw about 160 for sale on Toyotas website.

Most dealers in my area in MA had little or none in stock and heard there was a big chip shortage for Toyota and other manufacturers dramatically affecting production for Toyota and other manufacturers for the electronics in the trucks. Anyway kept checking Toyotas website and the number of Tundras kept going down from the 160 in Dec 2020, and finally found my dream Tundra SR5 in red like I wanted with, TRD Sport Package, 20" wheels, Premium Audio,SR5 Upgrade, TRD Sport Connivence package, 8 In Apple touch screen which screen resolution is awesome.

Only other option I wanted was leather seats, but couldn't couldn't find a Tundra equipped with leather seats with the other options I wanted, and had to stay with the 6"-7" bed for work. I watched and hoped the inventory got better for the dealers but didn't, and number of Tundras every week got lower and lower. Finally bought a Tundra with all the options above in my Red color and was only missing leather seats and going to research and send it out next for that and any recommendations for best leather seats would be appreciated?

MSRP was 46,735.00 and paid 43,000.00 for it, I did have a trade with a Ford 2012 Lariat loaded in pristine condition with 60K miles and turned into a total piece of junk after 50K miles, Fords have have more creature features than Toyota but I would never buy one again as it was total piece of junk from day one when I bought it.

I checked out gmc, ford, dodge and Toyota etc looking for a new pickup, and loved the Tacoma for which I had a SR5 with the 7 foot bed 20 + years ago and went went 250k miles and sold it, only repairs ever on my old Tacoma was tires and brakes and loved it and best pickup I ever owned. As much as I wanted another Tacoma with the better MPG drove it and the Tundra and I need to tow some times and the Tundra was the best option.

Test driving all brands the Tundra was the best and the most rock solid pickup I thought, and blows away all the others even though it doesn't have all the other bells and whistles and creature features other companies have, but I am really loving my Tundra and think its the best pickup ever built.

Watching the rumors too now that in 2022 for a new Tundra total redesign, maybe a new turbo charged six cylinder and would be the first one to buy one and would be awesome if Toyota could get the MPG better.

I have been looking at getting a new car in the next month or so and am still fairly open (although leaning towards trying a Tundra). My current car (bought new in 2006) has 324k miles on it and still going strong. I plan to keep it, but was in accident in November with my 2nd car and would like to replace that. My mechanic says the only cars that will keep up with my mileage are Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus. I'm not into the current offerings from Honda/Acura, so I have been looking at all of Toyota's line-up. Tacoma/4Runner/Sienna/Sequoia/ and yes...the Tundra.

I was at the dealership tonight strolling the lots and a salesman I had crossed paths with before came up while I was looking at a 4Runner. He was very friendly and since he was so relaxed I causally pointed to the 1794 on the lot and asked if he happened to have the key to open it up so I could see inside. He said he didn't have it, but he'd hit the button on the remote when he got back to the showroom.

Fast forward an hour and I was finished looking through it (it is a nice truck). Before I left I found the salesman and gave him a free sandwich certificate at WAWA as a "thanks" for offering to unlock it. (for those of you not on the east coast, WAWA is a convenience store chain)

He was surprised, but thrilled to get it and after I told him I am planning to buy in May, he and I had what I felt was an honest and open discussion on how the Tundra Market is going. I realize he's a salesman so you have to weigh both sides, but basically he said the same thing this thread is saying....Tundra's are going at premium in many cases.

There were only two Tundras on the lot. The 1794 I looked at and a TRD Pro in I think....cement? He said they had several offers on the TRD Pro and 1 from a guy in Maryland who offered $2,500 OVER sticker and the "boss" inside said NO. It was not going for anything less than $5,000 over MSRP. They also had a Black Platinum on the lot for a while that recently sold last week to a guy in NY that paid $2,000 over sticker.

Then we got around to discussing the 1794 I had looked at. He said for me he'd sell for "below" sticker since we "go way back", but for anyone off the street it would be sticker. I didn't want to pry for an actual figure, but I did get him to tell me it would be over sticker once taxes etc were added.

To be honest, I was surprised as that is not the impression I had after reading posts on here from people who bought in the last year and were getting out the door for $5,000 or more under sticker with taxes included. My thinking before tonight was that on a 1794 with a sticker of $58,000, a buyer might start with an initial offer in the low 50k's as an out the door figure. The dealer would then counter and the final sale price would be a few thousand under MSRP with everything included. I had run this negotiation strategy past two others who I thought would know the market and they didn't think I was all that far off.

After learning the market is apparently pretty stiff right now, I'm now going back to reconsider some things. If I am horribly wrong about something, feel free to correct/educate.

Final take-away of the day though is that this is not a good time to be shopping for a Tundra, especially if you were hoping for discounts =(

 

Makes sense. My problem is with my truck being totaled, I really have no other choice; at least not if I want to stay in another Tundra. Thanks for the info.

 

be careful with sticker prices. If you have a lot of dealer/distributor installed options the price is very negotiable vs a Toyota installed option like Limited. For example I saw a SR5 TSS with sticker price of $50800, drive out including 6.25% tax was $45800. He also had a limited sticker was $51,800 drive out with 6.25% tax was $48,000. I asked why the limited wasn't $46,800 to match the discount the TSS had. Reason the TSS is distributor installed options with huge mark up where limited is Toyota and they don't negotiate on what dealer pays.

 

First post. Have been shopping for a Tundra in NH and it's a tough market. There just aren't any. Looking for a limited double cab. Can't find one. I had a dealer locate one for me but it was sold before they could secure it. They said they'd keep looking and call me in a couple days (tomorrow).

If I can even find one to buy I'm expecting I'll be paying full msrp. Had no idea these were so scarce.
