Good evening, I have an interesting symptom, I have a vibration which feels like it’s coming from the rear end. It happens when I turn left from a stop, especially noticeable at intersections. Sometimes it can be quite violent.
When I’m towing the camper it continues to do it until I get the wheels straightened back out.
Could this be an issue with the rear diff? A wheel bearing? Any checks I can do to figure out my culprit?

Is there any noise with the vibration? Place the truck in neutral, block the front tires. Jack the rear end up until the tires are off the ground and then try spinning the wheels (both sides). See if you can recreate any noises or rumbling stemming from the wheel bearings/ diff.

How's the fluid level in the rear diff? Do you have the LSD rear end? The friction modifiers will wear out in the fluid and cause a less predictable operation. My 98 Blazer required 15k mile interval rear diff fluid changes.

Just a theory, check the other end of your truck. You drag a trailer, your front end is raised. The axel boots could’ve worn out and damaged the axels. One of the symptoms of a bad front axel is shaking on turns. A bad axel will shake(50/50) on turns and is likelier to shake if you’re accelerating on the turn.

Is LSD, fluid changed about 1500 miles ago, did it before and still does it. I’ve jacked up the rear and spun the tire but didn’t notice any thing, will repeat. I haven’t noticed any noise or rumbling, it only does it very briefly on the left turn from a stop.

I replaced the passenger side CV axle, the boots on the driver side are ok, but I will look further into it.

    thanks for your ideas.

If it will only make the noise/vibration when you put a particular load on it (ie turning left or towing) then it's probably a bearing issue.

I jacked up the front and rear and spun everything. Rocked wheels side to side and top to bottom. Didn’t notice anything abnormal.
Think I’m just going to make an appt with my local mechanic for him to diagnose for me. Rather have it checked than play the replacement game or wait until it fails catastrophic when I’m 700 miles from home with camper in tow.

I have a similar symptom on a new to me 4x4 2006. From a stop and slow speed turning seems to be a vibration that transfers to the wheel. Interested to follow this thread and see what others have to offer.

A cheap fix would be go up to autozoned and buy a tube of limited slip differential additive. Pop the bung and squeeze 3oz in there. Drive it and see if it gets better. May need to add a little more, but start with 3oz.

I may give that a shot this evening. Thanks for the idea. Will hold off on making a call to the shop another week and see if something like this sorts it out.

Yeah. Good call. This will at least confirm or deny the LS as a problem.

I do remember having this slight chatter on slow speed turns from a stop when I used Mobil1 for LS (synthetic). It wasn’t violent like you say yours acts. Very subtle. Added the shtuff and it did subside, but would happen up less.

Switched to Lucas and it very rarely happens, but sometimes I feel a little on rare occasion.

Looks like they have that at carquest nearby. Says KW on bottle but made by CRC. Maybe a regional thing. I’ll grab a bottle and try it for a few days and report back.

If there is no LSD sticker like PHM suggested, go to Toyota Registration, create an account. Once logged in, add your veh via your VIN#. Once all that is done, look under "My Vehicle" then "Veh Specs". It would have an LSD entry if it was an option !

There is a good write up on here somewhere. I think @Darkness did it. You can also use your vin to look it up. My sticker was illegible, so the vin decoder is how I answered it.

Find a large empty parking lot and do some large figure 8's to work the fluid into the clutch plates. On throttle on the straight portions and off throttle on the turns.

Thanks for all the replies. VIN lookup shows I've got the LSD. And the port exhaust tip listed was removed very early in my ownership.

On the way home from work the two turns it typically vibrates it it did not. I went to a parking lot on the way home and attempted several time to get it to vibrate and no luck. Amazed that it appears to have worked after less than 20 miles. Fingers crossed but as of now it appears to be all good. Thanks to all who gave ideas.
