Hi all! getting new platinum here in a month or so. Was quoted $1800 by the dealer for a Grill replacement which seems a little rich. So thinking I might try myself after watching this video.

Noticing they did not purchase the whole package, just replaced the center grill piece. I have read Roman's thread quite a few times, however noticing he is not around as much as usual. Anyone here attempted similar? Curious where you have purchased the grill from? Would like to go OEM if possible, but also noticing Toyota Freaks has a replica as well.

    Interested to know your thoughts!

Hi, I just got a new 2021 Pro grill yesterday for my 2016 Platinum. Its an aftermarket replica, but super high quality. Since its not a mechanically-functional piece of the truck and more of a piece of jewelry, I don't mind going replica vs OEM. I paid $250 to a guy that does local distribution here in San Antonio and I installed it in about 40 mins. Very easy and lots of videos on Youtube. I think it looks so much better!

With $1800, you can do a replica grill and have money left to do a lot of your other upgrades!!

Before and After. Never really liked the Platinum grille on white. To much bright stuff up front.

They're actually a dark silver color. Just bad lighting, but that's the way they came.

Just remember that changing out your grill you could possible end up with radar sensor error codes. Also it you have issue with TSS it may not be covered under warranty.

This is a good point and I didn't really think about it. Apparently the acrylic sensor cover piece has to be OEM and is around $250 if purchased separately. I'd look deeper into this before you buy a replica. The grill will work, but the replica sensor cover may not?

I don't have the TSS, so it wasn't an issue for me.

Either way, you still don't have to spend $1800 to get a grille. Thats ridiculous in my opinion.

You can probably get the whole OEM set up with sensor cover an everything for around $600 from www.Sparksparts.com

Get an OEM Grill and surround(if you need it), and the Chinese garnish off eBay. Literally no reason to spend $300+ for a tiny piece of plastic when the $40 works and looks the same.

You don't mention what color is your truck. The Pro color match grill surround and hood bulge are not available in all Toyota colors.

The issue is putting on the Pro grill results in the sensor at a different height than stock. Chances are that the system will work fine but if you do have an issue later on getting warranty would be difficult. If your set on doing it make sure to keep the original grill and return the truck back to stock if you have to go in for warranty.

Woah!!! Highway robbery lmao! I bought a color matched hood bulge, Trd pro grillle and the expensive OEM garnish for about $800 shipped from sparks parts. Super easy to install yourself and I’m not the most mechanically inclined....

    100% works great.

I also got some vinyl stickers from TVD Vinyl that fit over the “Toyota” & help color match. It now looks way better without the dark silver that everyone else has.
