Tires or Tires and New Rims?

I have a 2020 and am putting on the 3/2 level kit. I have the off-road package rims currently with a 275/65r18 tire.

I can't find for the life of me the size tire I can safely put on that rim and still have the clearance I need for no rubbing after the lift kit. I've heard 305s 295s, 35s but I can't get a straight answer.

Anyone here have some advice?

 

295/70/18 is about 34” and that will fit with slight modifications. I am running 295/60/20’s on a 3.5” lift and I do not rub. Check out my build thread for details on the mods I did. However, I am not sure of the offset on those wheels. If the offset is too high, you may rub the upper control arm. I am guessing those wheels are 18x9 +50mm offset. If so, a 35x12.5” tire would rub the UCA. But a 35x11.5” tire would work. A reputable tire shop will test fit a tire for you. Let me know if you need more info on plastic trimming.

however, if you did get new wheels, then you can pick pretty much whatever tire size that you want.

ohh. Those wheels are 18x8 +60mm offset. Those limit what tire sizes that you can run. You will not be able to run any 305 or 12.5” wide tire. 295 is about the widest that you can actually mount on the wheel. However, since the wheel is +60mm offset, a 295 wide tire might rub the UCA. You might be limited to a 285 wide tire. I recommend new wheels. Get a 20” or 18” wheel with a 9” width and a +18 to +25 mm offset. Or you can use wheel spacers to push the wheel out farther to clear the UCA.

Look this, I loved, just a small rubbing on the skid plate when you turn completely steering wheel, so just have to bend it and that’s all. Lift Front 3” and rear 2” NO wheel spacers

Looks like a 295/70R18 but I'm not positive either. I'm in the same boat I just got 295/70R18 Nitto Trail Grapplers and ordered some 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers. I have SPC UCA's so I'm hoping everything's going to work out. I think 1.25" will be enough to clear the UCAs.

 

I also have a 3/1 Toytec Boss lift so we'll see if fitment is good.

 

60mm offset wheels (the TRD off-road and TRD pro models) clear the stock UCA with 295/70 r18 tires.

2” lift/level is common/minimum.

some have to trim, adjust, or remove any combination of the following:
Skid plate, front mud flap (forward), front wheel well liner.

 

Lots of people are running 305's and even 12.5" wides on stock 18X8 PRO and offroad wheels with no issues.

 

Been seeing a lot of 305's on the offroad 18's too.

 

Perfect size for a small lift/level IMO

 

They look good and do the trick without breaking the bank

 

YMMV, but I've yet to read anything on this forum about owners running 305's on stock 18x8" wheels (Offroad, Pro, or otherwise) without spacers for fear of not clearing the UCA. It was a tire size I used to be very interested in, but have decided against it (price/weight/availiblity). I suppose I could have missed something where someone has run them without spacers or aftermarket wheels.

just about every 305 manufacture recommends a 8.5" wide wheel. Folks have run wider tires on skinnier wheels before so it's not a deal breaker, but if you air down at all, there is a risk of the bead slipping. Use your best judgement based on your needs.

 

I am installing a 3/2 spacer kit and just want a little taller meater tire on the Truck. Looks like a 295 will fit and the 305 is only about a 1/2 taller. I'll have the place installing do a dry run before I buy. I did have one shop tell me already that a 305 will fit in theory. I have to take off flaps anyway because of the fender flare kit.

 

I put 1.25 spacers and put bilstins on the mid settings and ran 295 18's...had slight rub so i got the half inch bumper spacer. Didn't need new UCA's

 

Just want to make a clarification for you - in most tires, the 295/70 r18 will be approximately ¾" taller (diameter) and less than ½" skinnier than the 305/65 r18.

As I said in another thread:
Tires can be confusing.
Total height of tire is - width (in mm) multiplied by aspect ratio [which indicates the distance from edge of wheel to outside of tire] multiplied by 2 (because you have that height on both sides of the wheel) divided by 25.4 (conversion from mm to inches) plus the wheel size (in inches).

For Example - If the tire size is 285/65R18, then the tire width is 285 and the aspect ratio is 65% of that width with 18" wheels.
[[(285 x .65) x 2] / 25.4] + 18 = 32.59" tall tire

 

Honestly simple math! just need the formula.

 

Simple math once understood. Great confusion because many think the larger number must be the height - intuitive but wrong.

I say tires and rims. I went over this ad nausea in my head and realized that if I just buy tires and spacers I’m just gonna keep thinking about how long it’s gonna be before my tires wear out so I can get new wheels.
