No start/No power issues

Hey everyone,

I am new here but not to Tundras. Had a 2002 I just sold when i switched to my current 2011.

So last week I had lost my key, and didn't realize my spare key was a dummy key. Attempted to start it a couple of times with the dummy key and it just cranked but wouldn't start (a good thing I suppose). I ended up changing out a battery before realizing the key wasn't coded to the truck. Had a locksmith come out and key a new key for the truck, but it was completely did when he finished. Spent about 30 minutes hooked up to his van to be able to jump it. Went to drive it to charge the battery back up, made it about 2 miles and the battery gauge started to fluctuate quite a bit. Ended up completely dying and had to get towed back.

Changed out the alternator, seemed to be fine at first, but then battery gauge started to fluctuate again. Got it home and then it lost all power. Batter is still reading about 13V, but no power to the truck. Pulled terminals back off (brand new connections to battery) and brushed them up along with the ground to the fender. Connected everything back, and had lights back on in the truck, showed good on the battery gauge, but when attempting to crank nothing happens and then power is gone again.

I am not too great with the electrical side of the house, and at a loss where to even start with this. Any help would be much appreciated.

 

Sorry to hear of your issues. Not an expert either but have heard the "master fuse" mentioned before. Can't direct you to it but it may be labeled on either of thevfuse boxes. Its probably a 40 or 50 amp fuse. I would check this first.

Bad ground? Bad battery, get it tested first.. sounds like the shit my 1uzfe does when battery is slightly low or had a dead cell somewhere... everything turned on, but no fire up.

 

OP, what ended up being the cause of your issues? I'm having a very similar problem right now.
