Sold my 2011 4wd Tundra in February, 2 days before the great southern blizzard(of course I sell a 4wd and it snows like crazy for a week). It was navy blue, 4.6 V8, 4wd, bench seat, not a lot of options, had the smaller 4 door cab. 85,000 miles on it, Carvana gave me $20,100 for the truck without even looking at it or driving it.

The funny thing was I bought it for $20,500 back in 2018 with 55k miles on it. So basically drove it for 2 years/30,000 miles and lost $300 in depreciation. And the truck was due for a suspension rebuild, it was making all kinds of clunking noises when you turned at low speeds and went over bumps.

Decided that fancy/nice pickup truck isn't my thing, hated the 13mpg, ended up in a 2014 Lexus ES350, 3 years newer with 40,000 miles on it for the same price from Carvana. 26mpg is nice, V6 has the power of a small V8 in a light car (runs circles around my Tundra), rides so smooth, has a big back seat/trunk, has some of that big car feel from my old Cadillacs I used to own.

I sold the bass boat, figured out that I had 3 or 4 other people I can borrow a truck from if I need one. Last week tossed my dad the keys to the Lexus and borrowed his Tacoma for 4 days, ribbed him about having to drive the old man Lexus(cause he is an old man lol)

My lease buyout (5 months away) on my ‘18 is $32k. Toyota calculated the depreciation... 2018 sr5 with under 40,000 miles like mine are selling for $40k right now near me. Suddenly I feel great about the lease because when I buy it in august I’ll have $6k-$8k equity instantly.

I did the same two years ago but had a 2014 IS350 F Sport, AWD. It did great in the snow, but after our last blizzard- I traded it in that following week for a 4R as it did leave me stranded....in front of my own driveway lol. (High centered). That, and while I loved how it drove and how sport it was, there was zero storage room in it.

All the car wholesalers are competing with each other right now at the auction block. Your lucky if your selling but not if your buying. Unfortunately there will be a moment when someone starts to bow out of the bubble like valuations and then I think we all know where it goes from there.

    Alot of them
I sold them my 2013 4.6 2wd DC with 97k miles in October for $17,742. They listed it for 21,990. I am in FL and I looked it up by the VIN the other day. Now it is in NC for sale at a used car lot for $19,900. I ran it through Carvana again yesterday and it is down to 13,100 for their offer.

Looks like it’s already starting. I over heard this late 20’s kid at the dealership the other day telling this sales guy and finance officer that he can afford a $650 payment for 72 months because and I quote “Bro, I make $600 dollars a week(while laughing), of course I can swing that!”. The only positive was that I heard the sales guy tell him he absolutely has to keep the car for 72 months or he will loose his ass. I bet they got him at %15 interest!

Once manufacturing is back to full speed the market will adjust. Right now supply is low due to pandemic circumstances, leading to a supply shortage.

Carvana offered me $14,988 for a 2012 Crewmax Limited with 200,000 miles on it. I think the mileage is the big difference. But honestly that's not a bad offer for a truck that I bought for $16,000 2 years ago. Especially because it needs the 200,000 mile maintenance that Toyota quoted me $1,200 for.

I don't know what a 200,000 mile dealership service includes, but do some reading here & save yourself $1k.

After looking at this thread, I decided to check Carvana again. My offer last week was $46,300 and it jumped to $48,300 today!! What the hell is going on, it's so crazy.

Ok, you've sparked my interest. Don't, or at least didn't, have any intention of selling my Tundra. I bought it 3 years ago for $46K, I have put 68k miles on it, and Carvana is offering me $39k for trade. Carmax in my area has the exact same truck listed with 66k miles on it for $44k.

I guess the question is would I buy my truck as is for $39k? My answer is no, so I probably should sell it. The problem is that I would need to replace it. So whatever I would purchase in it's replacement, a newer Tundra or 3/4 ton, would be just as inflated right now. So then I ran it through NADA and this is what the summary looks like. Again, I paid $46,000 three year ago and have put 68k miles on my truck.Screen Shot 2021-04-03 at 8.18.26 PM.jpg

Yeah, this only works if you trade in on a beater corolla or similar until the bubble pops and then go get a replacement for your truck.

Curiosity got me. Carvana offered me $50k for my 13 month old truck with 30,000 miles on it. Not enough to make me get rid of it.

    I just checked my 2014 2wd CM with 54k miles. I bought it 12/2013 for $32,500.

    Carvana just offered me $31,484.

Manufacturing on the current models will never be back up to speed with the new 2022 coming. The factory will most likely shutdown soon anyway to revamp for the 2022 model production. If the rumors are true the value will stick because this is the last of the V8

So what drives this? I understand supply and demand, but even changing travel habits - more people camping, Rving, off-roading, etc. plus stimulus checks and decreased chip availability and production shouldn't be sending the market this crazy. The Ford dealership closest to me has way more f150s than 4 months ago? Is there a part of this that wants to get a 5.7L i-force before there are no more? All of the above?

I think supply and demand and the V8, plus the simplicity of the truck will be lost on the 2022 model. The new 2022 will not be as easy to upgrade suspension\other mods and down the road the TT6 will not be has easy to repair in your own driveway as the current V8....plus the tundra has its long reliability record, this will reset with the all new 2022. Not saying it won't be reliable, but we will have to wait a few years to see.

I can afford to be without my truck for a year or two, but eventually I would want to replace it with another Tundra.

All of that I'm sure plays a roll, but at the end of the day demand is up and supply is way down. As for Ford that is hard to say without being on the inside. They sure aren't offering incentives right now like they've done for the past decade, but it could also be Ford stores more manufacturing parts so when the third party part suppliers went down Ford continued to produce. I know Toyota doesn't manufacture that way as they supply parts as they build, more of an on demand build cycle. Other reason is Ford just came out with new f150 so it might be hard selling old version off without incentives.

Then it might workout for you to make a deal!

I was farting around and put my wife's 2015 4Runner Trd Pro into KBB to see what they think it was worth (don't tell her). I accidentally put in 790,000 miles for the mileage and they still came back with $18k. For 79,0000 miles in Good condition they estimated it was worth $28-30k

Looks like this is only happening for Toyota products or at least at this level. Anyone know if this is true for Ford and GM trucks? You could buy a crew cab 2021 F-150 in the STX package with a V8 $35k last month. STX is the SR5 equivalent!

I paid $31,500 for my 2019 DC exactly 2 years ago new. It has 17k on the clock and am selling it to Carvana for $36,800, and swapping into a 2021.
