This is the Tundra I've owned for about 13 years.

I recently test drove my first Gen 2 with a 6 speed AT, and now I want one.

Are there any issues with the 2008 model that I should be aware of?

    That's a nice 2002 Tundra you got.

With the 2008 5.7L you should be aware of speeding tickets. ;)

The test drive brought back fond memories of driving my GTO when I was young, it produced about 500 lbs. of torque.

Nothing really year specific wrong with that truck. Just do the usual due-diligence you would on any used vehicle. TSBs, Recalls, maintenance records, accident reports, etc.

One thing is you're going from 4WD to 2WD (at least with the links you provided). are you sure you want to do that?

    I'll keep the Gen 1 4WD, the 2WD Gen 2 will be a daily driver / toy.

I would consider a 4WD '08 if I can find one close by.

Maybe that one wasnt meant to be. One question though, why would you want two trucks?

I like the practicality of a truck, and prefer the ride height & view. It's also easier for me to get in & out of a truck... sedans / coupes are great, but I no longer like sitting so low. My '02 is a dedicated 'work truck", all of it's mileage is deductible... a second vehicle makes this much easier.

I am also spoiled by how efficient the heat & AC are when you aren't trying to cool, or heat a larger cab.

I'm a Windows down man myself. But I never thought about it like that. Do the single cabs have power rear windows?

Mine has a sliding rear window that I can manually open / close while driving.
It's a short reach in the 1st generation, but not as easy in the 2nd generation.

search tundra air pumps. My 4.7 2008 has had 2 pumps and two valve packs replaced and now it is off the road awaiting them again on my dime. Can't pass emissions. 50,000 km or 30,000 miles TOTAL. Rest of truck is mint and babied.

I too am looking for a regular cab 5.7 4x4 and man are they hard to find. I can find long beds all day long, but to find a short bed, that's a different animal, I mean unicorn...

Thank you! I have actually seen that one and have it on my list. I also just found a new listing for one a little closer to home (VA) that also has the 5.7 motor, which I prefer if I can get one. Thanks for the lead!

I only have a pic that I took at the dealership which is now my avatar. But it's a 2007 regular cab with 52k miles. It's a 5.7 4x4. It has a couple small mods such as window visors, KC fog lights, and a spray in liner. I have an Undercover Flex bed cover to install once my brackets arrive, then I hope to get a lift and wheels and tires.
