Hey everyone. Today I was at a trailhead that was super muddy and PACKED full of trucks. So I was parking into a tight downhill parking spot and my truck slid in the mud and got pinned into the other truck which had a sharp aftermarket bumper. The damage is hit on both doors which is a bummer. I've attached the photos below, but I am wondering what my options are? Should I take it to a body shop or just try to find black door panels. I don't want to overspend as money is a little tight right now and I'm wondering if you guys had any "life hacks" for this situation. Thanks in advance for any help or wisdom. Cheers!

Body shop it. Depending on your insurance and what insurance you have the outcome may not be in your favor. 1200.00 (just a good guess) repair because you’ll have both doors to repair and paint. If you have a 500.00 deductible you’ll be ok. Might add a point to your insurance because your a claimant.
Either way wishing you good luck with the repair.

If money is tight, clean it up and use a color match paint.

Won't be pretty but at least it won't rust.

    Hey all,

Did some research on doors and also got a quote from a body shop after work. It'll cost about $2800 bucks for the body shop to repair it, and it looks I could get two doors for about $1100 bucks. I don't think that I'll be making an insurance claim for something like this because I'm 23 and I think it'll shoot my insurance rate through the roof. With that being said, I think I'll ship two doors in and install them myself.

My next question for you all has to deal with door removal/installation. Does anyone have experience taking doors off of their first-gen tundra? I have take doors off of other cars before and it was super easy to unplug the electrical from the door, but on the tundras it doesn't look as easy. Want some beta before I dig into this project and haven't found anything yet on the internet. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks!

No experience of taking a door off but plenty in taking the door panel off which is where the meat of the project will be IMHO. Is this on a 2006 I saw you post about in another thread ?

If money is tight... Run it! Maybe touch up with some black paint and run it. It's a funny story anyway.

that tear in the rear door means i wouldnt run it just because water will get in (unless you know how to weld) used doors can be had in the same color. my 09 corolla came with a messed up driver front door when i bought it. 200 bucks and a drive later, i hung the door myself and you cant even tell its not from the same car

That seems really high for junkyard doors. Really high.

Totally ghetto, but for now, you could use waterproofing tape on the hole in the door to keep water out, then paint it. The front door really isn't bad.

Vehicle doors are not fully waterproof. The actual water sealing occurs from the weatherstripping on the body to in the inner door surface.
Door assemblies are engineered to manage and divert water, rather than attempt to fully waterproof the entire assembly.
Water travels down the glass, past the glass seal, between the skin and inner frame, then drains out the bottom drain holes in the door. The glass seal diverts most of the water, but not all.
That is why when you roll your windows down after a carwash, then close the window again, it comes back wet.

I do agree that a hole in the skin is BAD as it introduces more water into the door than designed.
Hammering/ bending it flush, then taping over to seal it, would be a temporary solution.
