Blinking Cruise + Clicking Noise?

This morning I ran down to the Weigel’s to grab some quick breakfast and I noticed the cruise light was blinking. I hit the cruise button and it didn’t stop, I tried activating cruise turning off, nothing. Still blinking. Then it quit.

Half a block later it started again. Then I noticed at the next stop light a “clicking” noise from over near the glovebox and almost a “surging” noise from engine area. That scary surging noise that makes you feel like you’re about to be stuck on the side of the road.

Full tank of gas. Fluids look good.

That’s all I’ve got to go on for now. About to drive back to my place, see if it happens again or if I notice anything else.

Thoughts?

It’s been raining a lot the last few days. Chances something got water somewhere it shouldn’t have and the cruise thought it was being told to do stuff?

 

I know when I press the cruise button I can hear an audible click from the passengers side foot area. It sounds like to me the "click" is from behind the foot trim thing on the side wall of the truck. Under the dash. I'll go take a picture in a minute.

I'd say you have a worn out button, or frayed wire. Maybe @FirstGenVol will be of some assistance. He just replaced his brake light switch which also seems to have cured his blinking/flickering cruise light.

 

Yep. @jpink see if your brake lights are working or not. For the past few months my cruise light would randomly blink if I had the cruise on, but not actually activated. A few weeks ago a friend told me my brake lights were out. Replacing my brake light switch solved the flashing cruise issue because that switch is also what kills cruise when you hit the brakes. I wasn't getting any weird noises though. A clicking noise near the glove box could be your blower motor. Were you running the fan?

 

Pull the kick panel on the right side footwell and look for evidence of water intrusion. You may have some moisture making it's way in the cab...

@FirstGenVol i will check brake lights. I don’t have any friends to watch the lights, but I have a brick I can place on the brake.

 

Let me know if you want some help. You'll only about 15 minutes from me. If it is that switch we can swap it out pretty quickly.

 

Apparently a tail light being out can cause a problem... Also, it's a known issue on these that the cruise control wire on the stalk gets frayed and grounds out. Happened to my 2005. Not sure if this is your issue, but it's easy to check. Just take off your steering column shroud (turn the wheel to the left and then right to expose the two screws to take it off) and trace the CC wire from the stalk. If the covering is frayed, just wrap it when some electrical tape and you are good to go.

 

Any links pics on the frayed wire fix? Sometimes mine is finicky but unsure if I pushed the button hard enough. Used to be easy touch, but now needs a good push.

So revisiting this...life has been busy and because it didn’t happen again/lights all good the priority dropped.

Need to do an oil change and have to drive back to Iowa this weekend. Forgot my filters there so worst case scenario I could do it quick after I get back.

Need to also order a new gas cap cause mine randomly explodes into three pieces when I unscrew it.
