    Hi all,

I am finally getting around to upgrading the audio. I really do not want to replace the head unit as it sounds like a royal pain in the a**. I'd rather just get subs and be done with it.

Is an aftermarket head unit really worth the time / money? I have seen some pretty cool ones on this forum however.

Are aftermarket speakers worth it as well?

I am trying not to spend more than $1500.

Any thoughts are very much appreciated.

absolutely love my oem audio+ jbl enhancement

installed their jbl upgrade package w/ dual 8" subs. it will NOT wake the neighbors. it WILL sound great!

the only word i know that can describe the oem audio+ is, distinguished.

im am no longer 20 something, or even 30 something for that matter. i wanted a crisp / clear stereo that would 'hit' some, and more importantly, be well staged and balanced.

was shocked how GREAT the oem jbl enhancement sounded! and, with only replacement of tweets, subs, and the addition of acoustical filters.

    oem audio+ is top notch!

Do you have a link to the oem plus? I’ve never heard of it.
    I am open to anything.

looks like you're in an '18 1794 crew max. pretty sure you have the jbl "premium", but you would need to verify.

i purchased the jbl enhancement and opted for dual subs.

Replacing the headunit is pretty easy when you have the proper harnesses. An aftermarket headunit also makes adding everything else far more easier

I do have jbl audio “premium”...left a lot to be desired however. That oem plus looks like an easy set up.

I believe after having a lot of aftermarket audio systems over the years I think if you have a good installer and know what there doing they can tune your system to sounding really good without touching the headunit. I will be discussing this with my installer before I make my mind up which way to go. If I can put a good speaker, amp , subwoofer together and he can make it sound good to the factory headunit then I will keep the factory unit.
