replacement radiator

looking for DYI radiator to replace my OEM w/ a core leak, 07 Crew Max ,
lots to choose from , any one got recommendations ? to buy or to avoid ?

 

Why not just have it recored? Most radiator shops can do that for you.

 

I had to repair a hole in the core of the radiator for my 4Runner. I pulled it and brought it to a radiator shop. The guy charged me $23 and had it done in about 45 mins. Haven't had any issues w it. That was 4 years ago.

 

Hey Bob ..By record ..Are you referring to replacing the radiator core ? Don't know the difference in this and replacing the radiator ?
To Bprose..Good idea ..but.I assumed that w 200k miles on my core , it's got to have some circulation loss?
Last time I had any radiator issues was 5 cars ago ,late 80s , no real idea on typical core corrosion results from even my 07 tundra

Yeah. Basically they take your radiator, remove the core and replace it with a new one. Usually can be done for much less than the price of a new radiator, particularly if you are paying dealer prices. At 200k Miles, you probably don't want to play whack-a-mole by just patching holes.

 

Yeah, core replacement uses your tanks, top n bottom, just replaces middle.
Oh yeah, 95 runner w 230k miles. It's in Yuma, az. 120 degree summers, runs right in the middle of temp gauge still has ice cold a/c.

 

They still do this with plastic tanks? I've had radiators recored in the past but they were soldered on.

 

I'm not sure w plastic tanks. I had a 97 Silverado that had plastic tanks, the top tank cracked and I just replaced the whole radiator, w one w an extra row. It ran about $125.
I'm not even sure about the radiator in the tundra. Mines still pretty new, haven't looked at it.

 

Aluminum core, plastic tank rads are disposable. Some rad shops will attempt to recrimp the tanks to repair a leak at a tank gasket, but I've never seen it last.

 

Don't try to get repaired, just get a new one. I would look for a denso Amazon has for 175. If you go to parts store the spectra or tyc brands are OK. Or call 1800radiator I think they are nationwide they sell good stuff we use them at my shop
