    4ohm? 2ohm?
WTF does this mean and which do I want for speakers/sub?

If I buy 100watt speakers do I want a 100watt amp to drive them?

I have a SL550 with harmon kardon factory radio and it kicks ass and is the best sounding car radio system ive ever heard. (I blew thousands on a kenwood HU for my lexus with JL audio sub and speakers and even that didnt sound as good as the Benz).

So my daily driver is now a 2021 Tundra SR5 (TSS) with basic sound system, how do I get the same amazing sound the Benz has?

Id like to get a couple 10inch subs and was looking at a pair of $200 focal front speakers but I dont know what specs to get or any of that. Last thing i want to do is spend thousands on it and it sound like crap.

Also, I was considering this phoenix head unit coming out soon so maybe speakers/sub/ amp for now on the stock head unit.

    thanks in advance!!!

The HK logic 7 is hard to beat, had one in a bimmer. Don't guess, just call or drop an email to James at Tech 12 volts. Won't match HK level, but its a great bang for the buck. You'll get something you'll be much happier with. Based on your statement you should seek some professional assistance and not guess. Doesn't cost anything to consult someone.

Whatever is powering your speakers has a minimum ohm value that it can safely handle. If your speaker is rated at a lower ohm(impedance) than the device powering them (head unit or amplifier) then damage can be caused to the system, or if there are multiple speakers on a single channel that the sum of their ohm load is lower than the head unit or amp then you can damage them. So you want to make sure that the speaker/s aren't going to create a ohm load below that minimum of the head unit and or amp.

Well, yeah, but some ppl prefer to have an amp that is capable of providing more power than the speaker/s are rated for. They just set the amp accordingly to the speakers but they also have left the possibility to still upgrade to a more powerful speaker/s later.

To get your lexus aftermarker system to sound as good as the Benz you would need to have a it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. You would probably need a digital processor too. The gear you got for your lexus is quality gear that with the proper install and tuning could sound just as good or possibly better. The best sound quality car audio systems are custom builds. Now im not saying the benz harmon kardon system wasn't great, im just saying it takes a lot more than installing high end equipment. Thats just half the battle is all.

Deciding on weather or not you want to change your head unit will make a pretty big difference in how you will need to go about adding new speakers and amplifiers.

The best advice i could give is to contact tech12volts. The forum members here who have used them, and theres alot of them, have nothing but outstanding things to say about them. Everything from helping to put together a system to just explaining what is needed depending on what you want.
Those folks know our trucks inside out so they are a great place to start.

"put those to shame" thats a pretty strong statement...

I see you have the JBL system which I dont so I am wondering if I will see the same results from the basic speakers (hertz) ?

Which sub box are you using?

Sounds right. In a small SL Roadster cabin that should sound very nice.

I am running only K170's in all four doors (dash tweets are all disabled) and the Dual Sub JL's
and can still out perform them for sound and volume knob.
My S55 had a nice Bose system that was crystal clear, but you will be as amazed as I was too.

James has helped me understand that matched / equal components and ported sub enclosures will have you hearing sounds that you didn't realize existed

    I was expecting 1.5k -2k
But I suppose question number 1 is:

Is it possible to have a kick ass system with amp/ speakers/ 2x subs/ etc but still use the factory (non-jbl) head unit out of a 2021 SR5?

This is subjective. A few people on here have had good results (by their qualification) using the stock HU and DSR and such. But the general consensus is you get the best performance gain with a new aftermarket head unit.

If you were forced to pick one...new head unit, keep everything else factory...or factory head unit and replace speakers/Amp and add a sub , what would you choose ?

Absolutely possible...stock head unit, JL C5-650 components in front, C3-650 components in rear, Alpine PDX-V9, Audison Bit10D dsp...full mat on doors floor and back wall...sounds amazing...doing in phases, head unit will be next, and will sound even better with more tuning options...

Digital sound processor...it takes the crap signal from stock system and cleans it up. You don’t have to have it, could use some type of line out converter, but dsp sounds much cleaner...

It "straightens out" the sound from the factory head unit and makes it connectable to the 5 channel amp with rca cable inputs.
It should also help keep your steering wheel controls operational thru the head unit.
I run the Rockford Fosgate Maestero DSR-1
