Yes, she was arrested for DUI. She was both drunk and high. Crazy thing is she was arrested again about 3 weeks later for drunk driving, and assaulting a police officer. Someone keeps bailing her out.

@TTU19 after my accident I started looking at other Tundras to get an idea on value, as well as replacement options in case it was a total loss. It helps to be able to see what is available with similar mileage.

We are too lenient as a society. If you want to jeopardize your life as well as others, the powers that be should be able to snuff you out, like the little pos that she/he is....

Between drunk/high drivers and cell phones you can never tell what is going to happen. This is why I installed a dash cam in my truck and my wife's van. It helps, even after sending the other insurance the footage 4 times they still were trying to pin it on me for "being in her lane."

I have had good success with these two.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JJ9X5CC - This was the one in my truck in the accident, the only problem is the rear camera isn't that great.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075S7W6FR - This is my new one, the rear camera is quite a bit better.
https://www.thedashcamstore.com/custom-folded-bracket-for-secondary-dashcam-lenses/ - I bought a special bracket for the rear window in my crewmax.

So these just record to an SD card? Then can loop and over-write old footage? Hummm...

With that rear window bracket, wouldn't that restrict you from putting the window down? Or does it not clamp on the window?

I picked up a camera based on what I had been seeing here. Has a camera for inside the vehicle and sees out the back, but not as good as the ones that have the separate dedicated camera like you guys posted here. I like the 4k video quality to the front though.

The one I picked up has GPS that records both location and speed, I wanted to test it out, since I'm planning to put it in my sons car when he starts driving. I can only imagine the amount of trouble I would have been in, had my dad put one in my cars when I was younger, but I would have probably helped me make some better decisions. :)

Yes, the camera just loops to an SD. When I got in the accident I actually had the short USB cable in my truck and pulled the camera out and handed it to the officer at the scene. He was able to plug it into his laptop and download the video.
The rear bracket secures to the headliner mostly. So I can still roll down the window. It doesn't bounce as much as I thought it might, unless it is washboard dirt roads.
I'll grab a picture of the bracket in action and post it up here.

Whoa, that fender flare! Glad you guys are in good shape, and good spirits. That looks like it could have been far worse. Its stuff like this, that reminds me, my son taking over my 2014 isn't a bad idea, because its paid for, and I' confident it'll protect him in the event he, or someone else does something ill-advised. Accidents happen, but cases like this REALLY piss me off. I have zero sympathy for DUI/DWI scenarios and wish the maximum punishment allowed. Repeat offenders send me through the roof, so I'll just drop it there.

My rear bumper on the 2014 is crumpled, because of some jackass that rear-ended me on a freeway onramp, after tailgating, and attempting to fly around me until he realized he wouldn't make it. Dude fled the scene, so I called the county and followed. He called claiming I had a gun and pointed it at him (didn't have it on me that day...) so he was "scared" and didn't feel comfortable leaving. In the end, they gave no ticket, and no fault. His front end was smashed, and my bumper was crunched, so it was obviously his fault, but I couldn't win. These front/rear camera systems that I keep seeing appear to be VERY cheap insurance, for these scenarios.

Did you wire this to constant power or just use the power adapter to the cigarette outlet?

I remember hearing the Tundras don’t do well in off-centered front collisions so glad to hear you’re ok.

So the latest is: They are waiting to get in a couple parts, the lower and upper control arms, so they can get the tire back on. Then they can put it up on the lift and check the frame specs, etc.

    More waiting.. yay... :notsure::turtleride::help::(:annoyed:

Didn't mean to click like, this is B/S, I fail to see why not being litigious has anything to do with killing someone. If you are caught with a BAC over the legal limit you forfeit your life right then and there, 50 cent bullet in the head. Harsh yes, but so is killing innocent people through your wanton negligence.

Ok, so the truck does have "some" frame damage. Not sure of the extent but that shouldn't really matter huh? So now I just have to see what the other guys insurance values my truck at and then fight them for loss of value if it's too low, right? Sorry, never had to go through anything like this before.

Based upon my experience, they will either decide to repair or total it. If total, then you have to fight for actual value when they scratch you check. If they repair it, when you get it back you will have to get an estimate of the post-crash vs pre-crash value and fight for that.

It was not a truck, but I "crashed" a 5 month 4,000 mile old Accord four years ago. Air bag deployed. I got a great deal when I bought it for $20,950 (sticker was $26,105). When determining to repair or not, they determined the value was $23,000 and repairs were $14,000 (included fixing bent unibody "frame"). So they fixed it and actual repair bill when all said and done was a tad over $16k. Of course once they were deep into the repairs it mades sense to go all they was when other issues arose. Frankly I should have approached the insurance company with my purchase price value before repairs started..who knows they might have totaled it for that...but that shipped sailed. When I got it back, I did not want it. The first time I opened the hood two rubber pieces fell off. And I had to lift it max height to get it to latch. If that was representative of the quality of work it was only going to get worse. So knowing the Car Fax was flashing "air bag crash" I figured selling it myself was a no go. I went to one Honda dealer and they offered my $10k cash or trade. They would not budge even a penny. Went to the dealer where I purchased it and ended up getting the exact same car (year, trim, color) for $5k drive off difference. They valued my car at $17k trade and agreed to sell me another one for that same $20,950 price. So yeah a lot of words to say good luck with determining a "loss of value" both you and the insurance company will accept. The happy ending was I traded in that second Accord on my 2021 Tundra in December!

That sucks, but IMHO, it sucks less than the alternative. Hopefully they are good enough at math to get the numbers right.

That's too bad. I don't know how supply of used Tundra's are in your area but it seems others have mentioned prices are above book value in most areas for late model low mileage trucks. Make sure you research comparable trucks in your area and then seek for a settlement.
