    Hello Mr. Toyota mechanic,

During some hard rain storms, I’m getting water coming into my cab and pooling on the driver side floor mat, directly under the steering wheel. It has happened when I was driving through a downpour and I stuck my head under the dash in an attempt to source the leak. I only ruled out that it was not coming from the HVAC ducts. All other times it has happened when the truck has been sitting in my driveway.

So has anyone seen this before? I’ve removed the cowl and didn’t see any obvious points of entry. And both sunroof drains are clear and ruled out.

I've had water ingress after a windshield replacement. I sealed it's perimeter.

Take a garden hose to the windshield, gently. Spray an area then stop to check. Repeat until leak is found.

The only thing I can add it to use two people. Grab a light, put the seat all the way back and get you head under there while a second person garden hoses the truck. Hope your flexible.

Flexible enough. I’ve yet to try this myself but had a mechanic do the garden hose test with 2 guys, and they could not replicate. Typical.

Also I bought the truck used so have no way of proving a windshield was replaced. The glass does say it’s a Toyota one.

Hi - and apologies if this has already been asked. I did search the thread, but with over 2k posts, there were a lot of results, but none seemed to be the exact issue.

After a long winter, i tried my AC in my 2015 (50k miles - bought new a year and a half ago with 38k) for the first time in a while. It sounds fine, but the air just isn't as cold as it should be. Is this a common thing? A bad sign of a leak? Dealership or just add some of the 'AC in a can' from the parts store? I remember reading a long time ago on my 96 altima that the system would need to be evacuated before adding freon. Since that car was nearing the end of it's life, i didn't bother paying for the service and just added the can and it worked until i traded it in (i forget how long - maybe a year or two?).

I hope to have this truck for 20+ years, so i want to do it right. I'm a basic DIY guy, and just hate the dealership prices/hassle/up-selling...

    Thanks!

Do you have a way to measure the temperature of what's coming from the vent? Stick a thermometer into it or some such. If I'm remembering correctly, is should be about 40°F (I'm sure someone knows). If it's not near what it's supposed to be, then I think that you'd have to have the system checked for leaks, those leaks repaired, and the system recharged.

The system will have to be diagnosed properly. The AC system may be working correctly, it's possible the temperature blend door may not be working correctly? How is the airflow from the vents? Is the condenser clean? A condenser plugged with dirt and bugs will not exchange the heat from the system. Ther are many causes that will result in a system not cooling. DO NOT ADD REFRIGERANT FROM A CAN. There are many more checks that have to be performed before adding refrigerant and adding from a can is not the proper way. Some checks you can do before bring it in are to make sure the condenser is clean. Take the grill off and clean out bugs and dirt. Make sure the cabin air filter is clean and move the from hot to cold and see if it responds.

i did clean the cabin filter, which was totally gross, just as a test. WIll buy a new one as soon as i can. Today's weather is remarkably colder than yesterday, so it's hard to say for sure, but the air coming out of the vents definitely feels colder already. Fingers crossed.

Check the condenser as well. They get plugged with bugs and dirt and cleaning can make a big difference.

It's the part that sits in front of the radiator. If you look through the grill you will see it. It's about half the size of the rad. It's used to remove the heat collected from the cab.

You can use a hose to wash it out through the grill but if it's really bad the grill may have to come off. Spray some Superclean on it and let it sit for 15min then rinse with a garden hose.

    Hello Mr Toyota Mechanic,
I am brand new to Toyota as just bought a 2007 Tundra SR5 DCAB 2wd with 135,000 miles. It has dual climate control and the problem we are having is when the A/C is turned on it will blow cold to the driver but not the passenger. We played with the controls to verify it isn't an operator error. What can the problem be? Oh we also installed a new cabin filter as I think it was original and it was piled with small leaves and dirt. I read somewhere else online that it is the main unit and it would cost $2500. to repair?!?!?!? I hope this isn't true. Please help me cool my wife off as SUMMER HEAT is coming. Thanks

I'm afraid there isn't much you can do on you own. You need Techstream to help diag the issue. Using Techstream you can move actuator that control blend doors to see how it response and check for codes. It may not be the module and likely just an actuator motor or something is stopping the blend door from moving.

Very good video and he mentioned all the most common issues. Nice to see the techs side. The only thing that I would disagree on is diagnosing the air injection. It's really not that hard to diag. The starter issue is pretty uncommon but does happen. Head unit was a problem and most common in 2014-16 trucks. One thing he didn't mention was the rear camera which had issues for a few years. Also some of the older trucks had parking sensor issues. I appreciated his comment on the transmission reliability.

    Thanks for the video.

Issue is only squeaks in reverse, squeaking stops if I put it in neutral and just let it roll. I lubed the 3 u joints on the rear dive shaft, that did nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Squeaks when the truck is moving? If it squeaks while moving does it get quicker when speed increases?

yes it does get quicker when speed increases. Also, jacked up the rear end today and put it in reverse, no squeaking. Only squeaks with the truck weight and in gear going backwards. Replaced rear brakes today, still squeaking.

It's most likely one of the U joints on the driveshaft. Remove the driveshaft and check each U joint by hand. If there is any roughness or binging, replace.

I had this exact same scenario on my old truck, a Nissan Frontier. I was looking around everywhere for the sqeak. Thought it was the spare tire rubbing. It was a U joint.

Just posted under general. Oil leak from oil pressure sensor. Are you seeing this leak. My understanding it’s becoming an issue. Not just Tundras. Thank you for your help.

Oil sensor leak was more common on the older Rav4 and Camry with the 2.5l engines but it does happen on all Toyota products. I wouldn't call it a common problem on Tundra but if it does happen it's a cheap and easy fix.

Sometimes when my crank my 2008 Tundra the starter cranks or tries to engage and after trying to crank it multiple times when it finally turns over it tries to crank for about 15 seconds before it finally starts. Then I will not have issues for a couple of days then it does it again randomly. Any ideas?

When you say "tries to crank" are you saying it just clicks but the engine never turns over?

    Can you do a video?

I've suddenly got a light thumping sound from somewhere underneath and towards the middle to back of the truck. The thumps increase in speed as I go faster, but also gets quieter. It sounds just like a flat spotted tire, but the difference is it goes away completely a few seconds after any time I'm off the gas. The noise only comes back when I'm on the gas. So, thumping noise when I'm using throttle (truck is under load), no thumping noise when coasting (no load). I'm thinking drive-line.
I took a look underneath and found two things that may have something to do with it: play in the carrier bearing, and what appears to be a leaking front t-case output shaft. I have not inspected anything outside of those two things yet.

Any ideas? I'm going to replace the cb and output shaft seal for sure. Just thought maybe there's also something else I should be looking at.

    Thanks

Bought it used with 36k mikes back in the fall. On our last road trip, I noticed that between 75-80mph on the highway, there starts to be what I can only describe as a wind noise. On my old 4Runner I had a roof rack that made a similar noise, only I don’t have a roof rack on my Tundra, but it sounds comparable. Is it just the wind hitting the truck or something I need to be concerned about? Thanks for any help!

It's very difficult to diag noise issues on a forum but yes check driveline, brakes and exhaust. Movement in the center bearing is normal, its mounted in rubber. Transfer case output shaft seal that leaks won't make noise but change it out when you take the driveshaft down to check the U joints and CB.
