Hmmmmm.......on line price comps were $11 - 13K, so price seemed to be "average".....dealer offered him $12K on a trade which is why he accepted my $12.5. These responses are a little surprising.

    It's good
I wouldn't sell my 2005 2WD Gen 1 DC for 15K. But I'm the original owner and know the history. Do your homework as to the market, make sure you love it and know what it needs, expect it needs more, and decide on a price you would be happy with. If your gut says hold on, then walk away. I've bought new and used and never had a regret because I know what it's good for what and I'm good for.

Dealer was going to rape him. Heck, I would of bought it for 15 just to make a 4-5k profit. 12.5 is pretty unreal for a low mileage 4x4

Yeah, must be a regional thing. In the Pacific NW that truck would have gone for $17k plus, depending on the trim package.

Sounded like it never hit the market. Neighbor got lowballed by the dealership and the guy got a steal. On FB or CL at that price it would have sold to the first person shopping for it, and/or been considered a scam

My son (in NM) is about to pull the trigger on a one-owner '14 1794 Edition 4x4 with 78K miles. Dealer's asking just shy of $35K. Anxious to see how that works out.

Well, I must say I'm a little overwhelmed by the pricing revelations. I didn't think that I paid too much, or too little. I needed (wanted) a truck, neighbor had one he was going to trade, I did a quick on line search (incuding CL, auto trader, and KBB) and offered him what we agreed was a "fair" price. May need a new battery (5 years old), headlights are slightly oxidized (will try to restore or replace), Front brake pads are original. I'm going to add air bags for towing a horse trailer. Previous owner was a smoker, so it goes to a detail shop next week for cleanup and interior fumigation. Looking to find a new home for the hard shell bed cover, will replace with a tri-fold soft cover.

Sounds like everyone involved made out better than they hoped. That's a win-win!

I hope to join the Tundra club tomorrow

I’m glad I finally bought another. Bought a brand new DC in 2006. Didn’t even test drive it, blew the salesman’s mind. Said I want it and was out in 30 minutes.Only vehicle I ever totaled less than 10k miles later. That was 2007, just bought my used one last week & glad I finally got another, good luck with your search!

If you cannot live without this particular truck then go for it. But I do not think that I could ever get past knowing that I overpayed for it. I have not shopped for a truck in a while so I was not aware that prices were climbing like that. I am guessing it has something to do with manufacture and the Covid influence on it. So...do you need a new truck right now? If not, then maybe it will pay to wait. And how averse are you to travel? I have bought more than 1 vehicle over 500 miles away simply because they were artificially high in my zipcode. The truth is, you can usually get all the info you need and know if it is a good deal or not before traveling to get the truck. And it does not cost a ton to travel 1 way and drive it back.

I've cooled my heels significantly (If possible considering I've been shopping for months) as well as increased the budget.

    I'm looking into CrewMaxs with 80 to 120 k

Found my first VIN switched truck today! Scumbaggery abounds kids.

All sorts of red flags before that, auction truck from Texas with way too low a price tag etc

For the truck in the OP, I was going to say it would have been 15k when I was looking last year. Looks like that's the consensus.

In this part of their age/lifecycle, I'd care about condition, maintenance, and southern ownership history more so than miles. Also I wouldn't really trust the Carfax much at this point either.

Back when I was looking I was using most of the sites on the internet keeping an eye in areas where I was most likely to find what I wanted (5.7 4wd). It took a couple of months and along the way I found out that a lot of rusted New England trucks find their way to lots in the south. Most of the good dealers are use to dealing with over the internet/ phone sales and will quickly send you pictures of things like the rear frame. Once I found what i wanted I made the deal. I did have an ex-neighbor who lived in the area go and check it out. Bought a cheap plane ticket and drove it home.

I think trying to find a rust free truck up north is going to be a struggle. When you do there's going to be something that you aren't going to be happy with but because they are so rare you'll debate pulling the trigger. If we were retired and snowbirds I would find a good used 4wd truck each winter and drive it north for the summer. Then as I was getting ready to head south I would sell it for a profit and fly back. I bet with the market the way it is you could easily make enough so you would make a few bucks and get to drive it for the summer for free.

Maybe I'm way off base, but it feels like the market is actually cooling down a hair. I'm not seeing stuff sell above book in 24 hours like I was last month. Maybe it's just familiarity, I think I have the stats for every truck in 6 states memorized

Car rental companies sold off their stock during pandemic to stay afloat and then rebought a ton at auctions. I spoke to more than one person who bought a new truck and listed their Tundra during covid "cause I was bored" smh

    Patience will get me there.

And under normal circumstances I would definitely hop a cheap flight to the desert but things being what they are, that ain't happening this time around.

Oh and after passing on the truck in the OP I've been chased by the owner He's down to 13 k and I still don't want it. Crewmax, baby!

I have essentially the same vehicle except the 4.7 version and it's a 2007. I paid $14,500. The market is high but only because these things last forever

Within a few months most people will be vaccinated. So flying will be back to normal. The other option would be to have it transported. It's often cheaper to have it shipped to a location somewhat near you not to your house. There's options that would be more fruitful than looking in the north if you want rust free.
