Had a new set of tires put on a couple weeks ago. Fist new set and never even had the factory ones off for a flat repair. After doing some cleaning this weekend I discovered they scratched the shit out of all four. Any experiences with this?

Contact your installer. That is your only recourse.

If I had to guess....you are on your own, once you drive off their lot.

I'd you don't get anywhere with the shop level, escalate it to corporate, if they have one.

They will most likely say if you didnt notice when you picked the truck up then it is not our mistake.....something else caused it.

Yeah, you'll likely end up like that scene in Liar Liar when Jim Carrey goes to pick up his Mercedes from the impound lot.
You may be able to use use something to smooth it out a little so its not so noticeable, but you might just make it worse.
Maybe check with a wheel repair shop and see what they can do.

    Sucks man, sorry that happened.

Yeah back in 1992 sears failed to use a nylon protector and gouged the lips on 3 of 4 rims on my brand new car. I found out it was the mop boy from the employee number on the work order. Sears paid for the rims. Be persistent.

I had a 2015 Civic Si that I put new tires on at the dealer. After getting home and cleaning the grease off of them from the installation, they looked just like that picture all the way around. I drove straight back to the dealer and said (nicely) that they needed to make this right. They ended up taking all 4 to a wheel repair shop while letting me drive a loaner. 4 days later I got my car back and the wheels looked brand new.

They should have to make this right for you but like others said, it's up to them to do so, I certainly wouldn't just let it go. Those circular marks on that shiny aluminum looks terrible even from a mild distance.

Tire shops have insurance for this very issue. Take it back and have wheels repaired or replaced.

Not sure that could be refinished. If it were smooth im sure it could be - but replicating the machined lines would like not be possible. Refinishing cost $100-125 a rim in general.

As to "blame the installer - make them make it right" - good luck. Personally, i doubt there is any success trying this. Not that OP is wrong or blaming the wrong person here - but wanna guess how many people blame the installer/towing company for rim/tire damage a week ? Every shop gets at least 1.

Best option may be filing under your own insurance and asking them to chase the installer for both their payments and your deductible. Your insurance covers YOU regardless of fault..you pay for coverage - use it.

Or small claims - will cost you $50-85, and you might get lucky. But its easy to defend as an installer...vehicle has been in service for some time - the burden of proof is on the complaining party to show the damage could ONLY have occurred in the shop. Its reasonable to say it did - but not impossible it happened elsewhere either.

Yes - they have insurance alright...insurance that DEFENDS THEM. If you think the other guys insurance is gonna side with YOU in a disputed fault situation...you won't like the likely outcome.

Insurance is the best option - but gotta go with yours. YOU pay them to defend YOUR side of the case...and they have a duty to do so (provided it is reasonably supported...for example- you rear end someone...they will pay the other party regardless of your wishes. But when either version is reasonable and can be supported- then they will defend you.)

Every time a wheel and tire store has damaged a wheel or didn’t install a center cap correctly (and came off) they have replaced it without an issue.

    Works for me.

Sorry for no update. They took ownership and are sending me to a shop to get them refinished. Problem is it all 3.5 hrs away so I have yet had time to go down there.

For anyone reading this thread and ones like it, may this be a lesson to you. Never, ever, EVER, under any circumstances leave the installer without first inspecting each wheel thoroughly. Been there done that and ended up being shit outta luck a couple 4Runners ago. Glad it worked out OP.
