My seats? My original cloth, and replacement leather, are both single tone.

 

@speedtre do you know what color you went with? It looks like a match to the factory light gray color which is what I'm trying to accomplish. I just spoke with John and got an order started.

 

Mine is lunar grey....I really like it. It does have a slight blue undertone to it compared to the other greys in the truck...just an FYI.

 

@Kimosabe if I recall, there are recommended colors for factory match to each interior option that @jhuey8947 may be able to provide. The color I chose for mine was the recommended color for my interior and it’s a perfect match.

Yeah for me!
I did a mock up of my Tundra front seat heaters today. I wired in the factory switches and
work great. Both lights, low and high illuminate. Both heat pads warmed up nicely.
I have the carpet out and running all the wire looms. Getting closer!

 

I used the small rear seat plastic cubby right above the rear drink holders for the switches.
The kit rocker switches are on the inside of the cubby.nothing else seemed to fit in there.
They are mostly hidden unless you know where to place your finger.

Yes, that’s correct guys, back seat drivers each get their own seat heater!
The 2 outboard seats on the rear will have 3 position bun warmers.

I bought a unibit set and running the harness inside of sheet metal tunnels.
Shouldn’t see any carpet bulges or bumps

 

I've been lazy...installed my rear seat heaters but haven't wired the up yet. Where are you tying into the fuse panel? Post some pics of your switch location...

 

Thanks to all for the info in this thread. Unfortunately my DC wasn’t prewired, but I still used a factory switch for my passenger side heat. I used the katzkin momentary double pole switch for the driver’s side heating and ventilation. Mounted that switch in the console next to my USBs and voltmeter.

 

I’m about to tackle this but I’m wiring up my Wet Okole seat covers to an OEM switch. The bottom and top heaters are wired thru a splitter to a single positive and negative wire then to their high low switch. The output of their switch to the cig lighter only has a positive and negative too. I was curious how I should attach those to the pins under the seat so that the OEM switch’s still give me high and low. These things about run you out of them on high.

 

Are you pre-wired under the seat? Or will you be adapting your wiring directly to the pins at the switches?

Hey cam, do you mean you aren’t prewired but have the factory switch? If so, I found a pigtail connector with a switch on eBay that I was able to solder wire to.

 

I'm dredging this thread back up in hopes of some assistance and adding more resources to the archive.

I'm replacing the seat covers, so "while I'm in there" I'm planning to add seat heaters. I took the console out to look for wiring, but so far can't find or access the pigtails. However, after extensive poring over the factory electrical manual and wiring diagrams, I'm fairly convinced that there were no wiring options to omit the pigtails. Can anyone tell me exactly where I should be looking for these? The carpet over the tunnel is very tight, so I can't get my hands down in there to root around, and there's also ventilation ducts that cover the transmission tunnel. Poking around and inspection with a flashlight turned up nothing. I can add the wiring if necessary, but I'd really like to use the factory wiring if at all possible.

I've purchased the factory switches off ebay, so will definitely be using the original switch location. If I can use the factory wiring (or even some of it) that will make the job much easier. I do plan to document (with pictures) to try to help the next guy...

Yes, I did, thanks. I'm not finding the pigtails which is why I'm asking. But if I'm interpreting the wiring manual and schematics correctly, all trucks should have those pigtails. Typically manufacturers don't use different looms, but they may leave out unused segments. I can't find any part numbers or documentation in the electrical manual to indicate that there are different options on the wiring looms.

 

From what I've seen in my Tundra, different harnesses are used between different body types and layouts. So the main "spine" (base) harness may vary by model/layout.
Additionally, some harnesses connecting back to central locations are different and/or use different supplementary (fill-in/expansion) harnesses.

For example, if you have a DC truck with the overhead console, but no autodimming mirror, you may have the pigtail for the autodimming mirror tucked up in the ceiling, above the overhead console. You may also have the pigtail for sunroof, even if you don't have a sunroof. But there's likely an additional harness you'll need to connect from that to the actual thing.

Likewise, it may be that if you don't have the exact center console pictured with blanks for heat controls, instead you have one like mine with the secret pocket under, yours may not have the correct base harness with the spur for the heat controls. There may also be an add-on/fill-in/expansion harness you can buy to put them in place.

Like, I have the entire sub-harness to add the DC overhead stuff and temp sensor and whatnot into my truck. I never installed it, it's just sitting around. But if I wanted that in my AC truck, I could totally put it in and wish upon the universe that I don't lose any functionality along the way. Pretty sure the writeup I found said I won't.

Anyway ... lots to it. They may not be there. Check all the ends from your main harness coming from under the dash, chase each lead to end.

Thanks, I'll have to do some more digging as you suggest. I have the entire circuit printed out from the manual and mapped end to end, so will need to check all of the junction points on the truck. Fingers crossed, but you're probably right. :-/

I guess if I find it missing, any suggestions on where I might source it? I can't find a part number for any of the harness pieces, and there are no pull-a-part places near me.

 

Best bet is to go to parts.toyota.com and input your VIN. Then go to the Electrical category, and start flipping thru exploded diagrams for chassis electrical, maybe? Are you familiar with how to explore the exploded diagram system? A lot of people aren't aware you can flip thru pics over there, and zoom in etc.

 

Yes, that’s exactly what I did. I’ll look again though, I’ve been mostly focused on the electrical service manual.

 

Unfortunately mine wasn't wired from the factory. Mine's a base 2005 DC SR5 with the XSP package. I took everything out to look and even found no space in the fuse block for heated seats. So there are definitely variations of wiring harnesses out there. Also, my plug coming off the clock spring and into my stereo had fewer pins than most people had, further confirming different configs.

Yeah, I was wrong in my assumptions. Mine too is missing required wiring, so it's going to be a bigger project that I was hoping.

 

@speedtre any change you can help me with your wiring write up?
I am prewired and bought factory heater switches and am using katzkins heating elements. I know which pin on the truck harness is hot for low heat and high heat but not sure where I go from there.

Step by step for the leather? Or heaters? Or degreez system? I have a few files saved that I used when doing my seats, but nothing step by step regarding the leather itself. Send me your email and I’ll forward the whole folder of pdfs, pics and diagrams that I have.
