There might be one here somewhere. I liked the Vornato Spacer Thread the best. Adds 20hp!

This is an internet truck forum and you are stranger who plays the entertaining role of a former hand model that won't even give us your real name. I try not to take this place too serious. My post was about cold air intakes, not your homebrew file job. If you think it helped your truck, that's cool. Why don't you go back to ignoring me?

For what it's worth I did score a good deal on a used aFe Magnum Force Stage 2 with the 5R filter. $150. Had it on my 07 for a few months before I traded it in. Without a doubt the filter is quite good. I wouldn't pay $380+ for complete aFe CAI. Better off just buying a aFe drop in and use the OEM cold air intake. You can get a Pedal Commander for less and have more fun.

hostility I sense a bit here.

IMO (which ain't worth much) stock airbox with a quality dry filter, remove the permanent 2nd filter in the airbox lid and the final piece would be a dryer hose attached to the airbox inlet and the other end routed someplace to get fresh air from the front of the truck

Someone posted a TS link with the frontal air box mod. Looks goofy and lots of work. Seems the guys ended up making more problems than solutions.

Seems our OEM Box already is a Cold Air Intake as its detached from the engine bay drawing from the side quarter panel region. There are some little holes that are open to engine so those got taped off blocking hot suck. No way to measure if its effective but can’t hurt.

A lot of these other CAI I’ve seen look open to Hot Engine Bay Air and I wonder whats going on? Is there some type of seal at the hood when its closed? Still seems its more open to hot air anyways.

Seems the dry filter is the way to go and keep the stock box from everyone thats tried out all the stuff out there.

Never seen anyone do what I did inside the box so I gave it a whirl. That MAF drop/mount is a pinching point for sure, but no easy way to change that but would open up a couple cubic inches. Might mess with the MAF Mojo negatively. I’m done with it and will stay stock with an OEM Denso Filter. Fun while it lasted!

Yeah, I've only used them since the early 70's without ever an issue. Some folks can't properly oil the filter. Not rocket science. Millions of users can't be wrong compared to a few posts here. Just sayin:thumbsup:

If you mean Highway Lizard, his scoop caused no issues. It was when he installed long tube headers that his truck never ran the same again. The scoop wouldn't win a beauty pageant but it was done out of curiosity, an experiment really.

There is room to improve the original airbox on early Tundras. A common practice was to open a small hole at the front of the box. It isn't worth much to be fair, the air restriction is minor and only at high rpm where not a lot of time is spent. The newer first gens apparently have a bigger tube, maybe a Toyota engineer was reading TS years ago when the vacuum experiment was published. In any case, newer first gen may not have the same restriction that the older model has.

Didn’t waste a dime, but did waste some time. At the minimum, I got a good Feather Dusting under the Airbox. Oiled some nuts, too.
