What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

The hardest part, other than making sure you're not laying directly under a bolt you're loosening (dirt) is getting the bumper top cover off to access the top bracket bolts. The instructions have you disconnecting the license light and the trailer plug which if your fully removing the cover you need to do, but I found I could access the inboard bolt without entirely removing the bumper cover. I used a stubby socket, then a U-joint, then an extension. I taped the tailgate above the bolt so not to rub the paint. It's tight, but I removed and reinstalled the bolt using my 1/4" drive impact gun.
Once loose, it takes some wrangling to get the old bracket out and more wrangling to get the new one in, but it's only 5 bolts. It's not difficult, but it's tight.

 

I can't wait to see what this looks like on. Are you color matching the surround and bulge?

Many, if not most states requires the no deductible glass repair/replacement coverage these days due to safety.

 

Unfortunately, Vermont isn't one of them. Last windshield I had to replace cost me $350 or so.

And I STILL haven't got a FUCKING CLUE what broke it!!! That's what's REALLY frosting my cookies. NO CLUE. Just came out from my service call and noticed the 3" crack on the right side.

Am i right in assuming these fit between the brackets in the hood for the bulge, e.g. you didn't have to cut the hood?

If so, can you post a link to the lights/install kit and some night shots? Nice job!!

 

All is going to be matched up front other then the corner caps (where the fog lights are). I was thinking about doing those and color matching it to the cement color. But I’m thinking I should just save the money and get a front bumper.
So that will be the only silver

Yeah, no need to cut the hood. I got the idea from a light kit sold by Rough Crountry. (https://www.roughcountry.com/toyota-40in-led-hood-bulge kit-70847.html?find=2016-toyota-tundra-4wd-738571). I used the instructions on that page to get everything apart, instructions attached. I had the lights laying around for a different project, but realized they would fit in the hood bulge.

Link for Lights below - at that price, I don't know how long they will last, but any similar sized LED light should work the same. I DID NOT use the brackets, double sided sticky tape on the bottom of the lights to the black plastic housing, but honestly they fit tight enough that you probably don't even need the tape.

A couple of quick notes. Once the mesh grill is off you will see there are 4 "compartments" in the housing. They are all the same size, I just chose the two middle ones. I stuffed the lights in the black plastic housing, it made the housing bulge a little, but the front came right back together when I screwed the mesh back on as outlined in the instructions. I did have to drill holes in the black plastic housing to run wires, but I DID NOT drill any holes in my hood, I used one of the existing holes on the drivers side.

I did not purchase a wiring harness for these lights, I made my own. I bought a fuse-able link from NAPA (Link below) and put that from the battery to the rocker switch with a 20 amp fuse and grounded the lights to the body ground beside the battery.

I routed the wires down the hood lift strut like the instructions and went through the rubber grommet in the firewall with the factory wiring harness and used an empty switch hole on the lower left portion of the dash beside the steering wheel. I bought my switch on scamazon and it did not fit correctly, so I had to "massage" the opening. I believe rough country sells a rocker switch that is the right size and will greatly reduce headaches.

Having the switch wired directly to the battery allows me to use the lights without turning the truck on. I hope this helps and if I think of anything else I will update this post.

Plastidipped my wheels and added TRD center caps and black color lugs. This was my first time plastidipping anything, not too bad of a process. Ended up doing 7 coats of dip and 4 coats of glossifier.

Only issue I ran into was when I pulled off the old center caps, it took some dip with it. What’s a good way to fix that? Also had one place with a bubble, should I just pop it and respray? Both are barely noticeable, I just don’t want them to start peeling.

 

You guys out there replace windshields with 3" cracks? Here in Alberta a car is unique if it doesn't have a crack, we don't replace windshields until it spiders into the main drivers eye part of the windshield. If I replaced after every 3" crack I'd be about 5 windshields in on my truck and I'd be lucky for them to last 6 months there's so many stones and rocks on our roads.

can you only do this on the JBL Head Units or does the none JBL Head units capable of doing this as well?
i have tried to customize my screen but un able to do so.

 

it's not possible in 2020 and 2021 trucks. The newer HU doesn't have that feature.

Yeah, well... the city boys in Montpelier, Brattleboro and Burlington usually outvote the rest of us outside the cities. and we're an "inspection" state. I haven't looked at the Vermont regs, but in Marxachusetts (where I escaped from) a windshield will FAIL your car's inspection if it's got a crack that can't be covered by a dime. And zero deductible glass insurance is mandated for all cars, so no one really cares about getting it done as they don't 'pay". (they don't consider the car insurance costs, of course.)
