I heard some good news regarding lumber prices today. One of my colleagues has a brother in the wholesale lumber business. Apparently all the lumber mills got hit with a double whammy: COVID-related mill shutdowns/slowdowns and all the extra construction being done due to people building while they were not at work created a huge surge in demand and a huge shortage of supply. THAT's why the prices are so high. He said that mills are starting to ramp up and that prices should drop over the next six months.

So if you can wait for that OSB, you will likely save money on it.

 

It seemed to coincidently skyrocket right after the 2 hurricanes we were slammed with....which is what it did for Harvey in TX, as well as Rita for us too back then. I dont doubt that Rona contributed to it, but doubt that's the only reasons

 

I agree that the hurricanes made it much worse, but the inability to ramp up production due to personnel shortages was pretty much all due to COVID and all the stimulus money that made it profitable for people to NOT work.

 

I sell it for a living. I sell all kinds of lumber and building materials.

What you stated is/was part of the problem. The pipelines are flowing again for lumber, so thats not really as much of a issue as it was last year.
