Agreed. Gotta love new tundra owners that think they know more. OP and some other guy on here think the dealer told them the truth.

Put simply, yes they build a truck in less than a week, but no manufacturer in the world can get a dealer order, give you a vin, build it, take it to port, do all the paperwork, and put it on a truck in that amount of time.

sorry to break it to you OP, but you did not get a custom order. You got a truck that had already been ordered.

Nice that you ordered exactly the truck you wanted and you're getting it quickly to boot.

Yup, and I will as this would be the OP's 7th Toyota, 3 of which were new trucks bought the same way! LOL

Congrats on the new truck, and good choice on the SR5! After buying a platinum, I had regrets. The SR5 has everything I needed, and allowed room ($) for mods and personalization. Enjoy your new Toy!

do you find you don’t care much for the extra options you get with platinums? BSM, RCTA, folding mirrors, parking sensors etc etc etc?

Lane departure was an annoyance (I live and drive mostly on two lane country roads with frequent obstacles, i.e. animals, rock fall, etc.) so I turned it off. Parking sensors were the same (I'm perfectly comfortable driving a full size vehicle). I did appreciate the BSM, RCTA, and folding mirrors, and there is no question that the platinum leather and ventilated/heated seats were REAL nice! But I also thought that the fabric in the lower trim level Tundra was nice and seemed like it would hold up. I think if I were to do it again, I would go SR5. I don't think, for me, that the Limited or Platinum features were worth the up-charge.

I think you are spot on. When I started looking I saw so many things that were nice but were not things I needed to be happy. My biggest want was a power rivers seat so that if need be the wife could drive the truck as well! Odd thing with the whole truck search was that out of everything we looked at the misses felt at home driving the Tundra. Not so with the others! Happy Wife Happy Life!

Congrats, but as others have stated the truck was already in the works of being built and your dealership got the allocation. Still though, it's a great feeling to have a truck on the way. My unit has been allocated, but build date has yet to be confirmed.

Long time lurker, but yes finally got a membership here. After speaking with multiple dealships in Texas I have an idea on unit allocation and placing orders. It surprised me how much horse trading goes on between dealships and how little control you have on the ordering process. Cheers.

Hey guys. I think we have beat this thread to death. I started it and made my factual comments. Don't understand all the expert opinions but think its time we all move on and enjoy our current and future trucks. However they were purchased! Can we agree on that?

this makes me feel good about my decision to go SR5 vs upper trims. I was thinking opposite as I maybe should’ve spent a little more to get more features but you’re not the first person to say those features aren’t worth the up-charge. I did get an SR5 with leather package and I’m pretty sure it’s the same leather used in the pro since my friend has a pro and the leather looks and feels identical.

Upper trims are definitely not worth the coin dealers are asking for right now. Most things that come on upper trims you end up putting on your SR5 for a fraction of the cost. Dealers ask hundreds of dollars for a door edge guard that costs around 60 dollars and takes around 15 minutes to install. Ridiculous. Unless you're getting a PRO, SR5 is always a safe bet.
