Would be hilarious if all this waiting, anticipation, and the truck releases and is totally a lack luster joke.

The stuff in that video is just a recap of this thread essentially. But as for the release date right around 2:00 Andre says they have no info on release date, it's all a guess right now.

Is September the typical time to release new vehicles, sure, but we've also had Ford put out new generations in May before so it's hardly in stone. Check very early in this thread and there should be a picture showing Q4 release - although it may be in one of the other dozen 4th gen threads, but we had that info well before the 99% confirmation of V8 being gone.

Fair. My September comment was a stretch based off of what others have said their Dealer told them in addition to a history of past practice by most automakers.

I think you greatly overestimate how much advance information goes to the dealer from Toyota Corporate.

Maybe so. I honestly have no idea and it's no secret Toyota is stingy on info.

I find the best mileage has been with michelin ltx/2's I think they're called. The Michelin Defenders are not great for mileage by a couple mpg's, and noisy. I'm at 111k now, so no. not original tires.

I think if Toyota was run like Tesla, where the dealerships were owned by Toyota - they would get plenty of advance information; but since they are basically franchises - Toyota can't really trust these dealerships to keep quiet on info. Look at the dealerships that are already advertising that they have all the info on the redesign, and "Come on down and have a look!" while they really have no information. Imagine what they would do if they actually had information. Like the CyberTruck announcement, it was announced in 2019, for a late 2021 release - but even Elon Musk has said that what they revealed, and what will go into production will look different. Is that what you would want? Toyota to announce it when it's in the Concept phase, and then wait years and get a truck that looks nothing like that, and is lacking many of the features?

The problem with them leaking advance information this early, is that things change. What if Toyota is planning on putting powered running boards, but they just aren't happy with how they're working, so they scrap the idea right before production - the next transmission cooler thread would be the missing powered running boards they were promised.

Look at Apple, they announced their "AirPower" wireless charging mat prior to it being in production, and ran into issues that made them decide they weren't going to release it, and people were pissed. They would have been better off not announcing it at all.

I'd much rather wait, and see an announcement of a fully baked product to get excited about.

Ah! Gotcha, yes. but even between tire types, /styles I've noticed a difference even with stock sizes.

My Titan was a 2006, and back then you could get the Titan with or without the tow package, and with or without 4x4. Mine had both and my MPG (which stayed pretty consistent over the 14 year life of the truck) was significantly LESS than the Tundra I have now (with the standard tow package and optional 4x4). In my Titan, I averaged 12-14 mpg with mixed driving. The best mileage I ever saw in my Titan was 16.04 mpg. That was an all interstate trip over fairly flat terrain. I get almost 16 with mixed driving in my Tundra. All that said, if the Titan is still available without the two package, the overall MPG numbers are swayed. A good friend of mine had Titan without the two package or 4x4 and got 19-20. For some reason, the tow package kills mileage in the Titan.

    You're not wrong.

My post was replying to gj953 who was comparing his Tundra to the "one guy at a boat ramp". I just provided data with a larger sample size. In reality, these trucks all get about the same mileage, with the Tundra and Titan being on the lower end of the mpg spectrum.

They must be after fleet sales. Tires look dinky but go well with a v6.

Please be shorter than 19.5 feet so it can fit in my garage. Really hope there’s a 5.5 bed option.

I think you have the right take on this.

A lot of people don't want to hear this, but I would not be surprised at all if they delay the launch another year due to the pandemic. There is no shortage of reports on the supply chain issues facing all manufacturers. Ford is hurting with the F150, they needed the launch to go well and they are not able to build trucks due to shortages. GM is facing this as well with the C8. We have all seen reports that Toyota has cut production on various models and including the current Tundra. Launching a vehicle and creating hype/buzz, while being unable to fulfill the demand is a great way to lose customers and "waste" a lot of marketing dollars.

Also, Toyota is one of those brands that will delay a launch if they feel something isn't ready. Supposedly this is why the 300 series LandCruiser is not out yet as well, they weren't comfortable with some things so they delayed it to give the R&D teams more time to get everything up to spec.

Like you said Toyotas sell themselves based on their reputation for QDR. If the truck is released this year, my guess is it it will be right before ordering goes live and/or once they have built up some initial inventory. Probably in late Q3, early Q4

I'd imagine they'll stay in the 32-33" range. They'd be smart though to include 35's on the next TRD Pro, and make it so it doesn't need a CMC. This is one of the areas I'm really interested in to judge how much the American truck guys had influence over the Japanese engineers. Already heard about the tailgate gap - the engineers wanted to seal it off but the truck guys said it should stay the same as it currently is from the factory, could have an accessory to sell to people if they wanted it sealed.

The video I posted from TFL Talk said COVID would not delay production. MAYBE the chip shortage would impact it but that's it.

There's no way any manufacturer is going to release a halfton without a crew cab short (5.5 ft) box option these days. We've seen CM test mules with both 5.5' and 6.5' beds.

Question. Let's say I tow a 5000# box trailer 2500 miles per week at interstate speeds in the southern US in summer months only. Which would be more likely to break down on a Tundra first, the turbos on the new TTV6 engine, or the "uncooled" transmission on a '19-'20-'21? :stirthepot:

My opinions are based in real world reasoning, your "industry quotes" are merely rumors, and speculation. There is nothing wrong with rumors, and speculation - but when people get all worked up because those things aren't coming to fruition - sometimes they need someone to remind them where the ground is.

The problem is who you're quoting. TFL has shown time and time again they're just after the clicks. They're pretty low on my list who I would actually listen to. They do everything so I'll check their articles to see the pictures, but their videos are not something I pay attention to anymore as they'll pretty much say anything to get views.
