A little over a year ago I had a deer run into the side of my truck and damaged both doors on my drivers side. They replaced the skins on both doors and repainted them. Yesterday while washing my truck, I noticed there are a ton of rock chips on the bottom of my doors. Compared to my passenger side where the paint is almost 5 years old without a single rock chip in it. The new paint doesn't feel like it has as thick of the orange peel at the bottom like factory. 2 questions, is it reasonable to expect the body shop to repair it with it only being a year old? I know rock chips will happen, but I feel like it's excessive compared to the factory paint. Also if I do get it repaired, what is the best way to prevent further damage? Clear film? I'm not expecting show room quality paint, but I dont want to see primer or bare metal on my doors either and definitely don't want my doors to rust out due to the paint chipping off.20210306_135732.jpg

Take it back. Around here body shops offer lifetime warranties on their work.

Yep, take it back. They either used no chip guard (often referred to as stone guard) or too little or bad application technique. It can be a finicky product. They need to make it right which will unfortunately require stripping that area and refinishing the doors. If they got into the fender, bed side and cab corner it’s there as well. The lifetime warranty is only as good as the shop doing he work though. Good luck.

It looks like the protective layer was never applied over the paint job. Low on the body panel, Tundra's have what looks like spray on protection. Its a band about six inches wide and isn't smooth looking at all.

This shop has fixed multiple accidents for my family and me. They are a quality shop and have always done a great job in the past. You can tell there's a little chip guard, but it doesn't feel as thick as the factory side. I sent them a message yesterday so I'm waiting to hear back from them, just wanted to know if I should expect them to fix it or if they would just say rock chips happen there.

Running boards. Shaved vehicle emblems. TruXcedo low profile tonneau cover. LED interior lights along with cargo bay and reverse lights.
Is there a spray on product that exactly mimics what came from the factory available to the public?
    Looking for a brand name.

Took it in and had them look at it today. They took one look at it and said yeah, we're going to fix that. Take it in next Tuesday to be fixed. They owner said it could have been a product failure or an application issue with the chip guard.

Your deer story is the same as mine, except the deer hit both my passengers doors. Body shops irritate me because they push out a product and you take it back a couple times then they hope you just go away. Good luck, in my 3 deer accident encounters I have never been 100% satisfied with the body shops end product.

Got it back last night. Looks good as new hopefully it holds up better this time. You can tell there is more chip guard on it this time. Little inconvenience having to take it in and borrow my dad's 4Runner for 2 days, but I do like when a company will stand behind their product. Now I'm trying to decide if I should put some side steps on it to help protect that area along with the fact my daughter needs them to climb in and out.

Mind mentioning where this is (in a PM if possible)? I live in MO as well (right outside Ft. Leonard Wood) and knowing about a good shop is always a good thing. :)

    Its a quality issue.

Glad they are making it right.

Sometimes its product, sometimes its the painter - and occasionally both.

Key thing to remember here - it cost materials only for a shop to refinish the job. Its not like your expecting them to buy 2 new doors. A good shop will invest that small amount of material and provide labor to make it right.

Then again - some people WAY over ask from shops too...typically if the request is reasonable - I have not had issues getting shop to correct....but when its something stupid (i/e - I was tapped at 4mph on the rear - now my transmission is slipping and a bunch of electronics are failing on my 2011 Dodge) its easy to say "show me its related from a dealer then I'll look at it".

thats terrible!! Make them redo it .... surely they have a warranty ... should not happen like that, factory paint wouldn't do that in a year

It was already repaired. They took one look at it and said yeah we'll fix it that should not have happened. You can tell there is more chip guard sprayed in that area now.

    Not nearly enough room here!
With a Wife that stands all of 4' 10" and 8 Grandchildren, step boards aren't even questioned!:D I've always liked the WTW style more than Cab Length. Better access to the bed and just looks more 'finished' instead of "universal fit".Resized_20190716_075104[6877].jpg "
