Had to use the horn the other day and it sounds like a 1967 VW Beetle... just embarrassing. Why did the yota gods put a compact car horn in the gen1 Tundra??
My truck deserves a big boy horn sound. Cripes my lil Jeep horn sounds 10X more intimidating than this. Upgrade options?

Check your 4 connections. Might be that one or more horns is not working. Makes a huge difference with one being off. My truck blares. Tried to add 2 of the deeper tones (in place of the lighter tones) off of issammi pahts truck but they were toasted from salt and both not working.

Start with a disconnect one at a time and listen for differences.

To answer your question, simplicity and effectiveness. Take a look at the same generation of Lexus LS, Sequoia, Land cruiser, etc. Almost frightening how many identical or slightly different parts exist. Remember the concept...build the same thing a gazillion times and perfect it as necessary. Oh and the horn sucks..lol

Just as I suspected. Swear ta God, If I have to get a small compressor and semi horns... I will. I don't like this small car horn sound at all.

Our truck has 4 ‘horns’. 2 of the horns are from a Toyota Tercel. When the other two ‘deeper’ horns are disconnected, the Tercel Horns sound just like.... a Tercel!

The 4 in conjunction sound pretty good. I’m wondering if one or two of yours are toasted.

I have train horns on the Taco, its pretty fun. Definitely recommended if you want OBA anyway

Yes, I read reviews of the horn kit and one guy blew the cheesy compressor that came with the kit and upgraded his to a VIAIR, but not the one you listed. His was only $200. If I get that kit and blow the compressor, I'll upgrade it to a VIAIR compressor... but I likely won't be airing tires with this truck.

Same thing on the BMW K1600 forum. The K16 came out in 2012. None of us thought the horns were worth a dang. So, like most, we started adding different louder ones. Most settled on the Stebel Nautilus. I put 2 of those on my 2012 Tundra (post #8 https://www.tundratalk.net/threads/louder-horn.556377/#post-6966465). BMW obviously had been keeping up with the forums and in 2018 added the factory BMW Car horns to the BMW K16, problem solved.

Prior to that, a good friend and member on that forum did it before BMW. He installed this on his bike:
    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/horn/61338381271/
    That post:
    https://www.k1600forum.com/threads/a-truly-easy-horn-upgrade.121978/#post-1590218

I think I'm going to install 2 of the BMW horns in my truck soon. The only thing other than the horns I will need is 2 BMW connectors to plug into them.

When I bought my 2000 Tundra when it was 5 years old. I noticed it sounded like a tercel. I just went to the junk yard and got one off a chevy or ford. And replaced it.

Years later I sold that and bought my 2003 Tundra. That horn sounded like a truck should.
I assumed Toyota changed the horns between 2000 and 2003.

Or maybe like PHM said. And the 5 year old oem horn went bad.

Yeah. I’ve wondered about this because my horn scares people sometimes. Not train horn but definitely WAY louder than most vehicles.

My truck appears to only have 2 horns. Sounds like a mildly upset Tercel when pushed begrudgingly into service. I disconnected one and added an aftermarket. Helped, but still needs some more powah. Might replace the other with an aftermarket as well.

Yeah. My bad. My truck only has 2 horns and I was going to add 2 more Denso Horns (from pahts truck) for a total of 4 horns in line. That didn’t work for me because one of them was broken and the sound didn’t improve as both are needed.

On my OEM, one horn is a Tercel and the other one a little different but still Tercel sounding. Together they sound fairly loud. Try seeing if one of your horns is not working. They sound real weak when I disconnect one and pushed the horn for a sound test. Both sounded wimpy by themselves. They make a ‘tune’ together.
