I’d work that into rotation, if it’s a great $ deal. Is it one of the Michelin stock tires I had so much fun with, aired down, on the BFT?

I’ll shoot you a pic when I get home. I didn’t even look to see what tire it was, but I was surprised by the amount of meat on it for a stock spare.

Toyota Rigs San Diego event. Mainly the new “overlanding” crowd with their $80K RTT’d out Tacoma’s, FJs, 4runners, GX’s, older sub 100 series land cruisers and tundras sprinkled in. Went to a smaller meet yesterday and they put on a great beginner off road recovery and comms class. Great place to get ideas and meet some fabricators/techs.

    Hey!

Woah you mean those aren’t real beadlocks?! Lol.
Bummer on the flat. Or was it a popped bead?

Looks like you had a good time! And yeah the sand was really soft up on the mountain. A lot of fun to blast around though!

We didn’t make it out to OW lol but did have a good time ripping around Super.

If you know where the giant sign is at the base of the mountain, our camp is near there.

    This was us -

Now I'm 100% sure. ;) It was just the white third gen and the Ford when I drove by, plus some tents on their sides. I ran down to Plaster City and looped back to OW via Diablo Dropoff afterwards.

I just popped a bead, I didn't bother trying to re-set it on the trail since it was Sunday afternoon.

Ive tried resetting a bead, not as easy as YouTube makes it look

Gotcha. You likely drove by when we were bringing our buddy out to the road for a tow home. Unfortunately one truck had a bad time Friday night :pout:
Thankfully everyone is OK, just a bruised ego and a sore shoulder.

Oh, no. I’m glad it wasn’t worse. I can attest to how close to bad can happen pretty quickly.

Glad everyone is okay! I admit I haven't tried the Youtube methods, but if it had happened on Friday or Saturday I would've done it.

Here's a higher definition vid of the hit, around 1:45.

It’s weird how videos never show how it really was. I watched a couple times, never saw an obstacle, or a hit, except that you slowed and moved over.

It’s not a happy story, but a reminder that shit happens and check over your truck.

1st gen Tundra, stock LCA. LCA snapped at the rivets to the LBJ. He was running about 45-50 through the sand at the time, stuffed the wheel into the firewall and sent him ass over nose. Trucks done. Cab and bed are toast. Fiberglass is toast. Bypass is bent. Next morning the truck fired up no problem - gotta love Toyota.
Looking at it after, it wasn’t through whoops or anything, was on a mostly flat straight section. You could see where the wheel stuffed and piled up sand - then where the truck landed. Definitely a big bummer :(

If you have the sound on, it's easier to tell. I think precisely at 1:51? My rear was sliding and I knew the hit was coming before it happened.

And yikes that is the stuff nightmares are made of. Glad they made it out okay, truck can always be replaced/ fixed; we can't.

Well that sucks Mike, I saw what you posted on your IG story. @eccracer104 Glad they were able to walk away.
A friend of mine with a 1st gen Tundra had a similar LCA issue a couple years ago. Luckily he saw it before it completely let go. Both of his LCA’s were ripping apart right by the rivets.

Yes, very glad they both walked away from that!

Yikes... bummer to hear this may not be an isolated issue. Makes long travel look more like a safety upgrade rather than performance!
He said he’d been asking Solo to make stock length lowers for him, but they hadn’t gotten to it. He has their spindles, uniball lower conversion, and helmed steering. Wouldn’t be in the position he is now had there been a stock length lower option (or gone LT).

Yep, I wish there was another option for stock length lower arms because I would totally buy them. I went with brand new OEM lower arms because I didn't want to deal with my old bushings. Kinda glad I went with new arms instead of just bushings after hearing this.
