3D Printed Vent Ring Covers

Well, here is the one that I printed up using carbon fiber media. I did not add any additional filament.

@crewmaxlmt Looks great. The textured bed actually makes them look like they have the carbon fiber weave.

I'll have to try printing these in some silver PETG as it might be pretty close to the same silver as the HU surround.

 

The bed has a bit of buildup on it. I think that is where some of the texture comes from. The plastic actually does have carbon fiber in it, I just did not add any additional filament with the print. Not really needed as it is plenty strong as is.

 

The ring I printed in silver PETG didn't come out that great, but this translucent red TPU kinda looks nice:

 

do you have some recommendations on sand and paint, I like the way yours look!

 

I used fine automotive sand paper then sprayed with sandable primer them sanded again. Topped with 3 coats of krylon fusion matte black paint sanding in between coats 1-2 then sprayed krylon matte clear coat over them.

 

Anyone planning on printing more of these? The ones I had printed were done with PLA, and as @Swfltoyomafia warned me about, they have shrunk and lost their shape. I’d be happy to pay for material and shipping.

 

Let me see if I can run some. No promises but I’ll see what I can do to run a few sets and make them available.

 

It will take me a little time I got a lot on my plate the next few weeks.

No not like AJT. My opinion AJT designs are kind of tacky

 

So true. Whoever comes out with a smooth set that looks oem and doesn't have fake screws or tacticool ridges is getting my money right away. I'm starting to think it might not happen though.

 

It won’t. Not with the new truck coming.

 

I have had mine in since the pic was taken and they have not changed in size at all, even when it was 115°. However, the carbon fiber filament is printed at a much higher temperature than other media.

 

I did try it. I did not dig it.

 

I need to make more friends with particular skill sets and equipment. These printed parts are awesome. So many projects so little time.

 

Has anyone found anything for the chrome climate rings (besides AJT)?

I didn’t like the shiny plastic / rubber look. Just looked cheap and didn’t mesh well with the interior.

would love to pay someone for some black ones. I sent ajt or whatever an email asking for them to not make poser ass tactical ones and I haven't gotten a response in a few weeks. I think they might have been offended at my description of their current product.

Why would they NOT do this? It's a braindead move by them to not offer a clean version of all their stuff.

I'll pay someone to make me some smooth stuff and I'll be happy to pay extra for the persons time. I dont love being blinded, but I want to get rid of it without making my interior disgusting.
