Nice. What did you use to paint the grille? I like the grille, and wanted to see the version that comes on the nightshade edition from a “black out” perspective.

    Another tonneau for the list:
TruXedo TruXport Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover | 273901 |
Purchased it from Amazon after a reviewer put up pictures confirming it works on a trail edition. Installed about a week ago with zero modification, boxes open just fine. Went through rain, snow and 2 car washes without leaking. Only downside is it does flap a bit on the highway as all soft tonneaus kinda do (visually no noise from it) but I just needed something cheap for our road trip and it worked surprisingly well.

I used Plastidip Black Spray. No idea how well it will hold up, but it’s my first time doing this and I wanted forgiving and removable.

I used 2 cans for the grille. Numerous light coats with 30 min breaks. Spray distance about 10”

I think the truck looks awesome with everything blacked out on Army Green.

In Oklahoma City here and the truck only leaves the house a few times per month or maybe 6-7k miles per year, so very limited salt exposure. A good hot water rinse to dissolve that and all will be fine. Thanks for the info., just not needed under my circumstances. Glad you all have something to help you preserve your investments.

Working on a cement trail edition right now and hoping the numbers for purchase fall in place. Long time Toyota owner but this will be the first pickup.

Along the same lines as the tonneau conversation..... anyone put a topper/camper/shell/cap (feel free to add any other names for this equipment!) on the Trail Edition yet? Thinking if there is this much conversation about tonneau that works, a cap might be a similar consideration depending on how they get mounted. It looks like a number of them use the Tundra deckrails to mount so might not be an issue.

Also while I'm at it - searched for this answer and couldn't find much. Anyone switch back and forth between a hard tonneau and a topper and find a combo that you dont have to uninstall the tonneau rails to put the topper in place? (Obviously would need to take the cover itself off). It would be nice to be able to lift the topper off and just snap the tonneau back in place or vice versa based on what we're doing.

    Appreciate the help!
Looking forward to joining the Tundra club soon!

Finally had a warm day and gave it a bath. Funny how a clean truck feels like it runs even better

Today looks like it's going to be fairly nice weather wise, think I'll do first oil change and install Fumoto and RCI skid plate.

Got some things done that I wanted to today. First oil change! Added fumoto and aluminum housing. Then installed RCI skid plates. Finished up with 1.25" spidertrax wheel spacers.

One more thing done today, ditch lights installed! didn't feel like messing with going through the firewall so I used a wireless remote setup.

I went with this one: https://www.auxbeam.com/products/70025919

Works pretty slick, remote actually is pretty solid for being a fairly cheap product.

Also I was able to get one more thing checked off my list. I like how my truck rides stock, but I noticed the rear end bottoms out a little more than I would like on the rougher stuff. I bought some skyjacker Black Max foam cell shocks. They did 100% exactly what I wanted. They made the rear end just as capable as the front, maybe slightly more capable but that's fine. I got the idea because I had foam sell shocks on my Nissan Frontier and I really liked them, plus I read the reviews and it said the skyjackers were somewhat of a soft shock. Best part is they're affordable too.

Hey guys, my Trail Edition arrives next week, but I am already ordering parts. Can you guys confirm that the remote tailgate lock/unlock is standard on the Trail Edition or do I have to order one? Thanks!

Looks like you need to get a look at your truck's specs and see if it was an option that was selected.

I'll admit, it is a nice addition since I added a hard tonneau.

I keep mine locked all the time. Pretty easy to put the key in and turn the lock though.

Swapped out the headlights from the halogens to LED's. They're TYC brand "smoked chrome" but they are gloss black like the TRD-Pro style, fitment is like factory. Got them on rock auto and used the iHacker pnp harness. They look good but haven't really given them a true night driving test. I changed out the amber turn signal to LED as well, much safer and just looks better. Next up is a lift and rims+tires, then probably work my way around doing a full LED conversion.

edit: don't mind the spotted driveway, the undercoating spray dripped a lot more and longer than I thought it would...

Good morning, I read a lot of post were people were making all sorts of modifications on their Tundra Trail edition because of wanting the tonneau covers. I found the the DiamondBack covers are the best choice for my Trail edition. I'm able to keep.my storage, which removing them defeated part of the reason I chose my truck. The cover was relatively easy to install, with minor adjustments the next day. Here are some pictures DiamondBack SE, they are $600 more than most cover, but come with tie-down cleats.20210326_111537.jpg

Welcome! I haven't heard anything about that tonneau cover yet though it seems like all hard tonneau covers require some sort of modifications to work with the bed boxes. (Excluding the diamond covers)

I dont think it will. I had that same one on my 20 Pro. I think the latches that lock it would hit the boxes in the bed.

I have the RC tonneau. It didn’t work with the storage boxes. I maybe could have tried to modify the brackets somehow, but I didn’t want to mess with it. I ended up selling the boxes and using the cash for other mods.
