I agree. This is my first and only Spyderco and it was gifted to me. I was pretty familiar with the brand for years before getting it and I gotta admit, I wasn’t sure if I really liked the esthetic of Spyderco knives or not, until I actually got one.

Completely agree, the ergonomics of the handle, the angle of the blade...it all works really well. Feels super balanced. It’s waaay more refined in that way than the Phaeton, but I like them for different reasons. Maybe I’ll pick up a 3.5” sometime.

I have carried this pretty much all the time for the last few years and I am amazed every day at how Big and Tough it is yet crazy light at the same time!

I am truly surprised that other companies have yet to produce mainstream blades like Spyderco does en masse?

Maybe I need to try more knives?

    So, Chad,
A short side note: this knife handle is made from an oak burl my older son spotted when scouting for elk in the high country of Arizona around 12 years ago.
I have had it in the way for all this time. When I retired 3 years ago and moved to Oregon I didn’t plan on bringing it, but at the last minute I threw it in the truck of my last load. Now I’m glad I did!

lol, this burl was HUGE, around 24”ball shaped growth on the side of a Gambles oak that had only about an 8” trunk. He cut it off with just a hand saw!

A little tricky getting the radials in the curly maple parallel at the bolster and matching the inside handle curve.
Also added some thin black G-10 liners for a subtle accent 4CE7BA5A-2FD5-4019-A053-F9F9CF0C960B.jpg

I've had this knife for probably 45 years. How would you clean the blades? Wire wheel on a Dremel? Or would you leave them alone? They still sharpen nicely.

Personally I wouldn't. Especially if it still holds an edge well. Gives it the look of a 40 year old knife. Then hand it down to one of your kids or grandkids.

I recommend leaving the blades alone. It takes years to get that beautiful patina. It also helps protect the steel from rust and corrosion

I have a request to all of my knife lovin buddies on this thread.
Spent a couple days making this little piece of steel; 12 1/2” x 2”.99BCE4CD-B0D8-4E07-8D49-DB61AEF9555A.jpgThis is 530 layer feather Damascus, I did a quick test etch to reveal the pattern 6D2CA9C9-B3F4-48CA-8E32-6BF6EE158220.jpgWhat I would like is suggestions for what knife design to make with it.
