I might have missed it but in the spy shots, I have not seen a long bed crewmax configuration. Looks like in the crewmax they are testing a 6.5 foot bed option.

To be honest, I never had a time or could find anything that would not fit in the 5.5 crewmax bed and would in a standard bed. Now going from 5.5 to 8 foot, that is different. You can fit some 2x4x8 wood and other stuff that would be handy in a long bed.

My uncle always had crew cab, 8 foot bed 3/4 ton pickups. Those things are massively long. A lot bigger than any of those pictures posted of the new Tundra. I myself don't care for them and they are a handful to drive to be honest.

But... Giving people a couple bed options within the same cab configuration would be nice!

Not really a Ford fan, but their crew cab long bed with the 7.3 was straight money in the early to mid 90's. With a slight lift those trucks were sweet looking. Probably the only 8 foot bed truck I would take.0DC17A38-9076-4EBE-AD93-106A6A649323.jpg

The hybrid engine is still the biggest question for me, but if it's available I'm buying a CM 6.5' bed hands down. Only reason I bought the DC in 2016 was the 6.5' bed.

That would be my ideal engine, throw a supercharger instead of a turbo. Must be some engineering reason why they go 3.5l V6 instead of a 3.5l V8 - my guess would be the 2 less cylinders allow for easier packaging in the front end.

I'm never sure if folks here mean long bed (8 ft) or standard bed (6.5 ft) when they say long bed.

A long bed halfton is pretty rare and is currently non-existent outside of a regular cab except for the occasional Ford SuperCab or Tundra DC.

Not disagreeing with your preference for a V8; I am a fan for that myself. BUT, America is the only place where V8 in a truck is considered a requirement. The rest of the world; Africa, Asia, Australia, South America....etc... all use trucks with 4-cyl and 6-cyl engines, and they get everything done that we get done with our V8s. I lived in Africa for 27 years running 4-cyl Hilux and Isuzu trucks, which were actually 1-ton trucks, and always did what we had to do on the farm and in construction applications. When Toyota changed from a 1.8 liter gas to 2.0 liter gas 4-cyl and also from the 2.4 D4D diesel to the 3.0 diesel 4-cyl everyone was overjoyed with all this extra power these trucks had; big smiles on their faces when working these trucks hard.

We don't 'need' V8s, we 'prefer' them.

But then people are perfectly fine with a turbo on a diesel. I know the diesel motor itself is built heavier etc, but everyone wants a diesel option and no one ever complains about a diesel's turbos as a failing point. It's more the load and strain than the rpms that is damaging. It's much worse for an engine to be bogging down than it is to be reving high. Turbos are built to spin extremely fast, just like everything else, don't abuse them and they will last.

Yep. For people that actually use their trucks for work and hauling stuff. I’m sure they’ll sell plenty. Hell I’d buy a crewmax 8’ bed if they offered it

    Wow, so much hatred..lol
I recently purchased a 21 Tundra and I'm looking for things to poke at. Nothing
Nothing flairs out at this time.
I always feel production cars are under powered unless your talking high end sprots cars but everything else is underpowered.
Other than that I am real happy with my Tundra.
To me, it's a truck; a truck that rides nice, has decent mileage for a truck, looks great and my wife has not complained once about anything but getting up into it.
Thats on her, not the truck.
Just needs forced induction to put it to the top of the truck heap.
Actuall one thing / suggestion to Toyota.
Your hydrogen fuel cell car is a beauty keep it up but, if you want to put it to every truck maker on this planet, develop a "diesel electric" powertrain for the Tundra.
The most effective power delivery for towing / hauling ever.
    Think freight trains guys.
Electric motors at the wheels with a Diesel engine powering the electric motors.

I was referring to a 6.5 ft bed which appears to be the length in some of the spy shots.

Just more parts and harder to package, why add 2 more connecting rods, pistons and coils. Plus harder packaging.

It's pretty rare to see an f150 crew max long bed, I'd bet the new Tundra in the same config will be a unicorn. Maybe a few carpenters out there will like them

I know a few who have one, and it took them months to get them. So not only that many aren't built, it's much harder to negotiate price on them. If I can get $10k less but it has to be a 5.5' bed on the lot I'll deal with the shorter bed. I'm personally hoping they produce them roughly equally - 33% DC w/ 6.5', 33% CM w/ 5.5', 33% CM w/ 6.5' that way there's still some wiggle room to find what you want on the lots. But I think it would be more like 25,50,25 respectively.

Funny how 6.5' is now a long box. Used to be 6.5' or 8' only for choices, then we got the short bed which now many see as the standard bed. So many complain about the size, but in reality the difference between a Crew Cab short box and Crew Cab long box isn't that big on the streets. Sure a 1 ton dually isn't fun downtown Edmonton, but neither is a Tundra. It's not like the extra bed length is like going from a smart car to a half ton.

The real folks that use real trucks for real duty run turbo diesels. Turbocharged and even more maintenance. :burnrubber:

I love the Tundra, but it is and always was the Camry of the pickups. a good or bad depending on perspective.

Since the intro of the Ridgeline the Tundra moved up a rank. :amen:

I know it's been said before but payload has to go up. My 2020 CrewMax only has a 1185 lb. payload rating. With a front bumper, camper shell, DECKED system, and passengers, I'm already overweight. Just dumb for a fullsize pickup to have that low of a payload rating.

That’s the same with all manufacturers as soon as you go up in trim level . Mine has a payload of 1482 lbs and all I have added to it was a soft roll up tonneau cover . But a Limited would be comparable to yours .

That's what aluminum does for it. Very similar GVWR but much less weight. But go ahead and put 2000 lbs in a Ford and tell us how it does. I've put 2000 lbs into my truck and was pleasantly surprised how well it handled, I expected light steering and very poor braking but that certainly wasn't the case. Throw a pair of airbags on a Tundra and it would handle 2000 lbs easy. If it wasn't for the crap leaf springs the Tundra could easily be rated beyond 2000 lbs as it sits.

Same. I'm "able" to tow a 27' camper with my old F150....but "able" means 2nd gear will allow it to maintain 60MPH up slight grades here in the Ozarks. Easy towing it definitely was NOT. LOL

I had to tow my friend's 27' camper about 10 miles (his vehicle had tranny issues) and the difference was absolutely night and day. TONS easier with the Tundra than with my old F150, even though supposedly it was right near the limit for my Tundra.

Thats the problem, everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too. Buyers want the performance but not the costs associated with it whether its at the pump or at the dealer; TTV6's don't solve **** in the long run nor increases the overall fleet MPG in any significant manner.

Toyota isn't stupid, there's a reason why they're betting their entire lineup with EV's and HEV's. Just look at the RAV4 Prime, it can run on electric 90% of the time and they're selling like pancakes.

In the end, they'll play their obvious strengths and make something worth their time.

My rig is an extended cab with the 6.5 box on the back.
To me, the perfect truck size for my requierements.
Only added a pair of SumoSprings to the rear axle for heavy loads and sway.
