There’s new threads that pop up every day of people trying to get the update and the dealer wont do it...

They aren’t updating trucks like you seem to think they are.

In addition to they just released update #3 for the 16-17 trucks in the last few months.

My reasoning as to why I'll wait for the 2023 MY. I'd prefer not to be a guinea pig. Just look at the new F150... good lord that thing is a mess.

Are you tellin me that people will sign up on a forum and start a new thread about a heavily discussed issue to which there are solutions to be found if only they would've searched first? Surely that doesn't actually happen!

I just looked through the first 5 pages of the 3rd gen forum. There were a couple transmission threads, sure. But none saying "I have this problem. I described it exactly as outlined in the TSB, and the dealer flat out refused to update my truck." I also found this one: TSB-0092-20 is awesome! Most people who start threads on this issue are sent there. The general consensus is favorable. Most say the dealer will do it, but some try to replicate the problem first. If the issue is described as outlined in the TSB, no one is being denied.

Uncovered? I would think most anyone in this thread would have followed it to get some pictures if they truly saw it; i know i would have.

Hell no but I'm happy for those that are, I will enjoy seeing them at the mall. Maybe when they drop below $25k on the used market I will change my mind.

Looking at the F150 how has the 3.5 made the truck worse over the 5.0? It is every bit as capable, if not better. The thing is it will change in fuel economy more unloaded to loaded, but it is still every bit as capable. The engine isn't why the F150 isn't confidence inspiring when hauling - the super soft suspension is the biggest culprit. Now the rear coils if done progressively should be able to be decent riding unloaded but still stiff enough with weight on it.

The suspension is what people should focus on for it to be not as good at hauling, not the engine.

You're lying to yourself if you think a F150 5.0 even comes close to a EB in terms of power, torque, and torque delivery.

The 5.0 F150 makes about 300 ft lbs / 300 hp, with peak torque coming in around 4200 rpm.

    The EB 3.5 makes 400 @ 2000 rpm.

Just look at this picture and you'll understand why the EB 3.5 is an ideal truck engine. All the torque you need, immediately.

The only *issue* is that Ford makes their cars out of recycled dog poop

I did a decent amount of research on the F150. There are quite a few issues with the Ecoboosts in general. They rev a lot higher to get the usable power which greatly lowers the mpg’s (just like the Tacoma’s), water builds up in the bottom of the turbo piping causing the truck to throw codes, and the VOAs are showing that the oil should not be used more than 5k.

Ultimately it comes down to this...whether or not we agree...mpg’s and truck capabilities go hand in hand. Physics will never allow ANY manufacturer to have it both ways. There is always a trade off. Most 1/2 ton truck owners haul a$& everywhere therefore negating all the benefits of smaller engines with turbos. No one is blowing the competition out of the water in the 1/2 ton field in the real world...unless you considered 2 mpg’s a blowout.

This statement is wrong. Ecoboost motors make more hp and torque at lower more “useable” rpm than any na motor. A reliable ecoboost style motor in a reliable platform would be an ideal truck for 90% of people, really the only disadvantage of these style motors is the way they sound.

That statement may very well be wrong but I beg to differ that they are as reliable as a N/A motor for 90% of owners. I read a lot of problems about the turbos having problem in high humidity to the point where I was only going to buy the 5.0 but I couldn’t find a reasonable dealer that had one in stock than COVID. There are stories of blown turbos as well. My family owned Ford F450 turbo diesels and those turbos blew out quite a few times...

That’s why I said a reliable ecoboost TYPE motor. Turbo motors can be very reliable, and turbo motor are often built with higher quality materials to deal with the extra stress and heat, so they are usually higher quality built in. Ecoboost motors biggest issue is quality control and design changes being rushed through into production without proper testing, which is typical ford bs, and lucky for us toyota fans, it is the exact opposite of typical toyota.

Ecoboosts/ Turbo6's are the Running Backs of the 1/2 ton world.

Indeed, they are effective for generating a lot of power and can move objects almost double their own mass. Ultimately, if used as intended, they will regularly miss some game time and most their careers are doomed to be relatively short.

NA V8s are like the left tackles of the 1/2 ton world. They aren't the most agile, or the fastest, and won't make many highlight reals. But they are naturally solid from the ground up and hardly ever require a trip to the training table. A solid one will protect your most valuable stuff for a decade and a half.

Analogy brought to you by Ford's F150 P.O.S. = Planned Obsolescence System.

Ok, so I get an email ad from Toyota touting the 2021 Highlander with a new front end design (even thought it was just redesigned last year). It was also touting the all new redesigned 2021 Sienna mini van. But....nothing on the Tundra. Come on Toyota

Said it before, if they had a finished product that they are proud of, we would’ve seen it already. Either they’re not done, or it is currently a fail.

Probably just not done. You know there's no rushing Toyota.

I think it's going to be a great truck. Toyota is just being Toyota, except now they're being Toyota during covid.

QUESTION: did y'all notice that in the undercarriage spy shots, you can't tell really anything about the frame? Wonder if it's fully boxed all the way back this time.

I bet it is with the 5 link coils, I think what we have now is too floppy for that set-up

I bet they went fully boxed 5 link coil rear, should be a great set-up
